Run for your rights!

All set for Freedom of Information run on Saturday

By Cong B. Corrales

Ready, set, and go for our right to know.

Get your running shoes ready for “Tanglaw Run for Freedom of Information” this Saturday, October 4, at the Quirino Granstand in Manila City.

The run begins at 5 o’clock in the morning so stretch and limber up early. The name “tanglaw” symbolizes Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) community’s contribution in giving light to pressing social concern—the people’s right to know.

This is an annual advocacy project of the Federation of Alumni Associations in PUP, Inc. (FEDAAPI), in coordination with Right to Know, Right Now! Coalition this year. It will banner the issue of the passage of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill.

This event is open to all “Iskolar ng Bayan,” faculty members, employees and PUP alumni, other State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and like-minded groups and organizations in support of the People’s Freedom of Information Bill.

“FEDAAPI believes that with the rampant graft and corruption in our country the FOI would immensely aid our government in providing greater transparency with its transactions especially concerning government funds,” said Reynaldo de Guzman, FEDAAPI board member and “Tanglaw Run 2014″ chairman.

As well, Right to Know, Right Now! Coalition co-convenor Nepomuceno Malaluan enjoins its more than 160 member-organizations and freedom of information advocates across the country to participate in Tanglaw Run 2014.

The 5K advocacy run for FOI is expected to draw 30,000 runners who will take part in simultaneous run at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila and in nine Luzon provinces where 16 of the 22 branches and campuses of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines are located.
