In a press release sent to us by a Globe Telecoms representative, the Ayala-owned telco reports that it has already intercepted almost 31-million unsolicited SMS from through its on-going campaign to protect its subscribers from scammers/spammers.
Globe Telecoms primarily attributes this success to the network filtering system that it has put up nearly a year ago. On average, the filtering mechanism blocks 90,000 message in a day, and peaked at around 200,000 two months ago.
In a short statement, Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Service Management Division, Network Technical Group, said that not only were they able to block unwanted messages from reaching Globe subscribers, the network filtering system has also reduced the amount of SMS that’s going through the telco’s network.
Agustin also pointed out that “majority of the company’s 2.3 million postpaid subscribers are now covered by the filtering system” thanks to the expansions that they have done.
As part of their on-going efforts, Globe Telecoms is also educating its subscribers on how they can help in putting a stop to the SMS scams/spams through #stopspam awareness drive.
