Smart vs Globe: Samsung Galaxy 4 Postpaid offering

Now that two giant telcos in the country has announced the availability of the Samsung Galaxy S4, we thought of giving you a better look at Smart and Globe’s postpaid offerings to help you decide if ever you’re interested in getting one.

Smart has pretty much kept the same pricing scheme that they have when they first offered the iPhone 5. The difference between the 16GB iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S4 in all of the available postpaid plans is just less than Php100. Here’s look at Smart’s Samsung Galaxy S4 Postpaid offering:

Now let’s look Globe’s which has gone a bit creative with their proposition than Smart. Apart from offering the flagship handset on different postpaid plans, Globe has also added different lock-in periods which make it easier for potential customers to choose the duration of their subscription. Here’s a look at Globe’s SGS4 deals:

To give you a better comparison of the two telcos’ offerings, we picked three almost-identically-priced postpaid plans and placed them side-by-side to see which has the more affordable offer. Here’s what we got:

smart globe comparison

As we’ve mentioned on our “Ultimate iPhone 5 Postpaid Shopping Guide”, choosing the right postpaid plans for you really depends on your needs as a user.

“Smart offers generous free minutes and free SMS for a number of their plans where the total value is often times higher than the MSF itself. This helps you maximize your use of their network.

On the other hand, Globe offers consumable amounts as a percentage of the MSF. They also offer some freebies depending on the plan (more attractive as the plan goes up).

If you already know your average monthly consumption with call minutes and SMS, Smart’s plan will give you more mileage.

If you are unsure about your usage pattern, Globe’s consumable gives you that flexibility to reallocate credits to other services.”

From what we’ve gathered so far, it seems that Globe’s got the better of Smart in terms of its SGS4 pricing. But not only is Globe’s offers are more affordable, we also liked the introduction of various lock-in periods which we think a lot of subscribers will like. How about you guys? What do you of Globe and Smart’s Samsung Galaxy S4 postpaid plans offer?

Samsung Galaxy S4 leaks before announcement

We saw the video on the next Galaxy recently, and while things are getting set up in New York, a Chinese Tech site leaked images of Samsung’s flagship handset along with some of its features.

SGS4

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is expected to pack a 4.99-inch HD display, a 1.8GHz 4+4 Exynos processor and a 13 megapixel camera. It will all fall inside a 7.7mm thin casing, weighing at 138g.

SGS4 back

The design looks like an improvement over the previous model, with the new pattern on the back. Unfortunately, based on the leak image, majority of the phone will still be made of plastic with a metal-like side casing. The Galaxy S3, while having many variants, didn’t have various designs across carriers and countries. I think it’s safe to say this will be the design of the Galaxy S4, regardless of if it’s a dual-SIM variant or not.

The leak further says that the phone will feature S-Pen like add-ons, giving your fingers S-Pen like features through hovering together with eye-tracking technology.

Samsung Galaxy S4 expected specs:
4.99-inch full HD display @ 1080×1920 pixels, 441ppi
Exynos 5410 Octa @ 1.8GHz 4+4 CPU
PowerVR SGX544MP GPU
2GB RAM
16GB, 32GB internal storage

Update: More videos were leaked by the same guy who did the first video leak - featuring internet browsing performance, Floating Touch, the new lock screen and Smart Pause.

Stay tuned cause we’ll be covering the Samsung Galaxy S4 announcement live from New York.

Galaxy S4 allegedly leaks: No AMOLED, Exynos?

Truth needs consistency and coherence, and that is what we have here with the Samsung Galaxy S IV specs that was leaked once more. It has been going on from a number of reports, all pointing to it being powered by a Snapdragon 600 processor instead of Exynos. Recent news further suggests that there won’t be any AMOLED as well.

According to SamMobile, the 4th Galaxy S won’t feature their Exynos CPU all because of overheating issues. This wasn’t the first time these rumors hit the web. Apparently, way back it was suggested that the Galaxy S4 will run on a Snapdragon processor. Of course, it will be fast. The HTC One goes around the 12,000 mark on Quadrant benchmarks, while the S4 benchmarks that also leaked led us to around 24,000 on Antutu. We have no idea where that equates to however.

On the other side of the report, there won’t be any AMOLED show for the S4. Instead, it will be using a SoLux display of unknown origin. It will be 4.99-inches in size and 1080p in resolution. Judging by the leaked image above, the boot screen shows a dark shade of gray instead of a deep black – which could mean this is of the LCD kind.

A lot of details on the design leaked as well, including it having a plastic back with aluminum sides, the signature home button, squared off edges and dimensions of 140.1 x 71.8 x 7.7mm (that is very close to the Xperia Z’s dimensions). For you to visualize it and for the other specs that leaked, we have prepared it for you down below. Nothing new to visualize really, especially in design.

sgs4 yuga render

Samsung Galaxy S IV specs (so far):
4.99-inch Full-HD SoLux LCD Display, 1080 x 1920
1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 CPU
2GB RAM
16, 32, 64 GB internal storage
13 megapixel camera
140.1 x 71.8 x 7.7mm
138g
Removable battery
Android 4.2 Jellybean
Wireless charging

It’s quite difficult to analyze something like this. Does this mean the Galaxy Note 3 will be the one packing the Exynos 5 Octa? Or the 1080p Super AMOLED? Weirdly, the report also states that it will go for black & white color schemes instead of the recent blue & white one. Until the Galaxy S4′s release, take everything as a grain of salt. At least we have an idea of what the competition will be up against.

Samsung Galaxy S4’s benchmark test leaked

The web is filled with countless rumors of Samsung’s upcoming flagship handset, from how it’ll look like down to the processor that will be at its core. Today, a snapshot of GLBenchmark result gives us a glimpse of how the SGS4 fared against its predecessor and two other formidable handsets.

glbenchmark result

The handset at the top of the heap is supposedly the Korean version of Sammy’s next torch bearer which currently goes by the name of Samsung SHV-E300S. Surprisingly, the details of the S4 provided by GLBenchmark suggests that it features a more conservative configuration. At its beating heart is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Krait MSM8960 with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 320 GPU.

samsung galaxy s4 philippines

Though it may not be the Exynos 5 Octa that the phone is rumoured to be equipped with, the MSM8960 is no push-over either as is evident on the results of the benchmark test. On off-screen test, the alleged SGS4 decimated its opponents (SGS3, GNex4 and HTC Butterfly) by reaching a staggering 41.3 frames-per-second. On the on screen, however, the Google Nexus 4 emerged victorious besting the rumoured handset by more than 4fps.

Nothing is certain up to this point, so we suggest do take this information lightly. Hopefully the upcoming tech convention in Barcelona will shed more light on the upcoming device.
