Top 5 Gadgets to Look Forward to for the rest of 2016

The year went by so fast it’s actually July already. The last six months saw a lot of new gadgets being announced and released, at least one of which have probably broken the little piggy bank we hide just for those special occasions.

That doesn’t mean the rest of the year will be quite and uneventful. On the contrary, there are actually a lot more to forward to this quarter.

Let’s list down the more notable ones, shall we?

Samsung Galaxy Note 7. By first week of August, Samsung should be on schedule to announce their next phablet, the Note 7. The company is rumored to be skipping 6, not because it’s an unlucky number, but because they just want to catch up with the number coding of the Galaxy S7. Make sense.

Based on early leaks, the Galaxy Note 7 will be quite similar to the Note 5 in terms of form factor although a number of Galaxy S7 features will be adopted – like water-proofing, slightly curved edges, and a dual-pixel rear camera. The Note 7 should also be the first Samsung smartphone to come with 6GB of RAM and, perhaps, even a USB Type C port – features that most other flagship devices already have.

Apple iPhone 7. Like clockwork, Apple will most definitely announce the new iPhone 7 by September. It’s also the year that they’re scheduled to make a major re-design of their handset so it’s going to be more interesting this time compared to last year’s predictable iPhone 6S.

So we don’t know what it will be like and, though rumors abound, Apple will surely just surprise everyone. Regardless of how it will look like, Apple fans will continue to line up to get their upgrade to the new iPhone 7.

New Apple Macbook. We were hoping Apple would announce a new Macbook Pro during the last Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC 2016) but the only closest thing we got was the renaming of Mac OS X to macOS just to align with other product line’s naming convention (this year’s iteration will be called macOS Sierra).

Nevertheless, we’re still confident that Apple is going to release a new batch of Macbook later this year or just in time for the holidays. That should include an upgrade to the Macbook (hopefully, with more ports) and a redesign of the Macbook Pro series.

Google Nexus 2016. Rumors point to HTC as this year’s partner vendor for the next Google Nexus phone but our guess is as good as anyone. Last time, they released two models – the Nexus 6P with Huawei and the Nexus 5X with LG. They might do that again this year.

Perhaps another tablet as well, something similar to the Pixel C. There’s not a lot of rumors about these Nexus devices at the moment but we’re pretty sure they’re already in the works around this time.

Cameras of Photokina 2016. Being the biggest photo and video trade fair, Photokina is always the best place to announce a new camera. We’re expecting a Canon 6D Mark II and 5D Mark IV, Nikon D3500 and D850, Sony a7 III and a9, Sony RX100 V and the Panasonic GH5.

Though not usually part of Photokina, GoPro is also on schedule to announce the Hero 5 anytime soon.

There should be more but these devices are the ones that normally take most of the attention. Let’s see in the coming months if these predictions will materialize.
