Take note that this number is for devices only reported to the main NTC office at Quezon City for the past year alone. The number of lost and/or stolen phones reported to the NTC’s offices nationwide has been seen the ten thousands, and tend to increase up to 23 percent yearly, except in 2011 where reported devices went down six percent from the previous year.

Maybank Foundation, Inc. through Medical Relief Society (MERCY) has donated RM200,000.00 or nearly PhP3 million to Nasunugan Elementary School in Ormoc City, which was ravaged by Super Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.

Maybank Foundation Chairman Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor said, “Maybank’s partnership with Mercy Malaysia in disaster mitigation had enabled us to react quickly with coordinated aid to the recent flood disaster.”

Meanwhile, Shahril Azuar Jimin, the CEO of Maybank Foundation said, “It has been a difficult year for some of our communities recently. We all need to do what we can to reach out to the affected communities, especially for those who have lost their homes or had their lives disrupted due to the recent disasters.

“At times like these, we need to ensure that aid reaches the correct people at the correct time. We have seen MERCY Malaysia at work and we strongly believe that it is an ideal partner for us to channel aid to the affected communities,” he added.

“In the region, one of the most horrifying disasters was super typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. We were made aware that one of the affected communities was the Nasunugan Elementary School in Ormoc, Philippines, which we felt needed special assistance. Through our collaboration, we are hoping that our contribution would help MERCY Malaysia in further expanding their noble humanitarian services,” he further said.

The Nasunugan Elementary School was one of the buildings that was affected by the Typhoon Haiyan that hit the Philippines.

MERCY Malaysia first started relief efforts there by distributing shelter repair kits to the villages in Nasunugan. This was then further extended by conducting rehabilitation and reconstruction program on the Nasunugan Elementary School.

GT Academy to launch in PH, turns gamers to pro racers

Do you think you have what it takes to take your Gran Turismo skills and apply them in real-life racing? GT Academy is on its way to local shores and will be arriving next month to train the best gaming geeks into becoming professional racers.

GTAcademy

We’ve been with the Nissan Philippines Inc. team just recently and their president, Mr. Antonio Zara announced that March 25, 2015 is the date that GT Academy will be launched locally. Initiated back in 2008, it is basically a driving program from Nissan, Sony, and Polyphony Digital that weeds out Gran Turismo (the popular PlayStaytion game) players and trains them to apply their on-screen talents on a real car, on a real track.

GTAcademy-2

The race to the top is not an easy task as the academy will only choose the best virtual drivers. Once shortlisted, there will be activities to test not only skills, but also the physical endurance of the contestants at the latter part of the training. If you think you have the heart, talent, and the determination to be a professional racer then this might be your ticket in.

Psyched? Be sure to mark those calendars — March 25, 2015.
