WhatsApp Web for desktop now available

WhatsApp, a popular multi-platform messaging app for smartphones has launched its web client called WhatsApp Web which allows users to use WhatsApp on a desktop with the help of a browser.

To be clear, WhatsApp Web is not an installable desktop program like the ones launched by Viber and Line. Instead, WhatsApp Web is a web client that utilizes your browser and mirrors your conversations and messages from your mobile device. This means that all of your messages are still stored on your phone.

To use WhatsApp Web, just open https://web.whatsapp.com in your Google Chrome browser and scan the QR code to connect. Do note that it only works with Google Chrome browser and your phone needs to stay connected to the Internet.

WhatsApp Web is currently available for Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry devices. iOS users sit this one out for now due to Apple platform limitations.

In the explanation of indices, Traffic Index refers to the “composite index of time consumed in traffic due to job commute, estimation of time consumption dissatisfaction, CO2 consumption estimation in traffic and overall inefficiencies in the traffic system.” Time Index is “an average one way time needed to transport, in minutes.” While Inefficiency Index “is an estimation of inefficiencies in the traffic, with high inefficiencies it assumes driving, long commute times, etc.”

GMA Network sought the comment of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino about Numbeo’s report. Tolentino said that the report must also be viewed as “an indication of the country’s growing economy and population.” Although he admitted that it “affirms the country’s dire need for a more efficient transport system and the decentralization of Metro Manila.”

According to the resolution, DOTA is a bad influence to the youth and one of the causes of disturbances in the community.

“Ang larong DOTA ay naging sikat na sugal On-line man o Off-line at naging ugat ng kaguluhan hindi lamang sa loob ng mga Computer Shop pati na rin sa komunidad at sa pamilya.”

“Dahil sa masamang impluwensya sa mga kabataan ang laro/sugal na DOTA ay nagiging bayolente at natutong manloko, magnakaw at di malayong pumatay o mamatay makapaglaro lamang.”

Below are the penalties that await computer shops that violate the resolution:

First offense – one month suspension of operations
Second offense – revocation of business permit
Third offense – permanent closure of the shop and non-issuance of business permit

Inquirer reports that the resolution had been positively received by parents and school administrators. The Barangay Council of Salawag now plans to endorse the resolution to the City Council of Dasmariñas for a city-wide ban.
