DTC Fiesta Plus Quick Review

Lazada Philippines

Looking for an Android smartphone that features a huge display with an affordable price? Then you might want to take a look at the DTC Fiesta Plus. It has a huge 6-inch display, quad-core CPU, 13 megapixel camera, 2,700mAh battery, and a sub-Php10k price tag. Find out what this phablet can offer by reading our quick review below.

If the DTC Fiesta Plus looks very familiar, that is because it borrowed the design of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. It’s got a 6-inch display on the front, along with the earpiece, 2 megapixel front camera, physical home button, and two capacitive buttons for Back and Options.

Around the sides is the plastic strip with chrome finish. Housed on the left side is the volume buttons while on the right is power/lock button. Found right up top is the headset jack while down at the bottom is the microUSB port and pinhole for the mic.

Flip it on its back and you’ll see the 13 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, the “Fiesta” and DTC logos, and the speaker.

Being a 6-incher, the Fiesta Plus is a tall and wide device that is cumbersome to use with one hand. It’s hefty too so it’s not exactly the most comfortable device to use or place in your jeans pocket. On the bright side, it feels sturdy and the matte finish at the back feels good in the hands.

The 6-inch display is the main feature of this device. It has an HD resolution which equates to 245ppi. Pixels are discernible but not at all ugly. Although some photos appear grainy when viewing up close. The display utilizes an IPS panel. Viewing angles are okay but not impressive.

Going back to the camera, the rear shooter is capable of producing decent sharpness and colors. The camera’s shutter is slow though which means a slight movement of your arms or subject may immediately result to blurry image. Take a look at a couple sample shots below. (Click for a larger picture)

The Fiesta Plus is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6582 quad-core CPU, 1GB RAM, Mali-400 GPU. Looks decent but the OS is stuck in Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean which is a downer considering most entry-level smartphones nowadays carry Android KitKat. Performance is okay but not blazingly fast. DTC disabled the UI animations on the Fiesta Plus to make it appear snappy. Take a look at the benchmark results below.

AnTuTu – 19,027
Quadrant Standard – 5,757
NenaMark2 – 52.1fps

The Fiesta Plus comes with a 2,700mAh battery. We put it through our routine battery test which involves playing a Full HD video in Airplane mode with brightness and volume set to 50% with headset plugged in and the result is 8.33 hours worth of playback which is average.

To conclude, the DTC Fiesta Plus is a capable device that is aimed at users who want a smartphone with a large screen for watching videos or playing games at an affordable price. Unfortunately, it’s running an aging Android Jelly Bean OS which is a real downer considering that buyers are now expecting KitKat for a phone with this kind of hardware.

Xiaomi in Talks w/ Tesla for Php290K-worth Mini Car

Lazada Philippines

Although Xiaomi has seen huge success in the smartphone industry, they have a ton of non-tech products in their portfolio that are available in some parts of the globe. However, it seems that the Chinese company is about to embark on a new venture which, according to rumor-mongers, involves a mini car dubbed as Mistla that is believed to be retailed for only 39,999 Yuan or under 290K in our local currency.

According to GizChina, speculations about the Mistla started when people started seeing Tesla bigwigs with their Tesla cars at Xiaomi offices in Beijing, China.

As one would assume, the rumor spread like wildfire and it has reached Chinese newswires which confirmed that Xiaomi has, indeed, been in talks with China-based car manufacturers for a possible four-seater, A-segment vehicle similar to a Hyundai i10.

Nothing is official at the time of writing, so it’s best to take these speculations lightly. But if this rumor turned out to be true, and Xiaomi brought this mini-car to our shore, is the Xiaomi Mistla something that would tickle your fancy? Share your thoughts in the comments field below.
