One of the many items that was on display at the Mi Exclusive Service Center is the Xiaomi MiPad, a 7.9-inch Android tablet that has yet to be officially released in the local market.
At first glance, the MiPad bares a faint semblance to the iPad Mini which is mainly attributed to the similarly-sized display (7.9-inch) with the exact same resolution (2048 x 1536) of Apple’s second-generation iPad Mini.
The dimension of the MiPad is also somewhat similar to the iPad Mini 2, albeit slightly longer, wider and a full millimeter thicker than Apple’s smaller slate.
The similarity between the two tablets quickly dissipated when we picked up the MiPad. Instead of an aluminum back cover, the MiPad’s plastic posterior has a glossy finish to it.
The MiPad’s rear camera is placed at the upper left corner of the back panel which is placed near the Power and Volume rocker that are situated at the slate’s right flank.
One of the things that set this tablet apart from most Android tablets is the use of NVidia Tegra K1 processor which is paired with 2GB of RAM. The one on display at the service center is equipped with an expandable 16GB of internal storage, but a 64GB variant is available at Xiaomi’s online store.
During our short time with the MiPad, its engine held up quite nicely. Apps, both native and third-party, loaded fairly quickly and the navigating through various menus was buttery-smooth.

When asked about the possible plans of bringing the Xiaomi MiPad to the country, Steve Vickers, Xiaomi General Manager for Southeast Asia, said that the company is indeed considering that, although he wasn’t able to provide an exact date of when will that plan materialize.
The 16GB version of the Xiaomi MiPad is currently being sold for USD309.99 through the company’s online shop. The 64GB model, on the other hand, can be had for USD344.99.
