Cherry Mobile Superion Probe Quick Review

Another addition to Cherry Mobile’s wide array of tablets is the Superion Probe. It packs a Qualcomm-branded processor coupled with an Adreno GPU so we could expect it to handle gaming nicely. It also comes affordable with its sub-Php4K price. Will it be worth your money? Read on and find out.

The Superion Probe is a 7-inch tablet with a 1024 x 552 screen resolution. It is housed in a plastic body with a brushed aluminum back cover. We’re looking at an ordinary casing here so don’t expect any premium feel while handling it. In addition, it also has pretty thick bezels going on making it a standard-looking tablet in general.

Although the Superion Probe isn’t a real looker, it carries a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor and an Adreno 302 GPU that works hand-in-hand to offer smooth performance. Here are the results from our benchmark tests.

AnTuTu – 16,321
Quadrant Standard – 8,553
NenaMark2 – 40.8 fps
Vellamo – 940 (Multi-core) 627 (Metal) / 1451 (Browser)

benchmarks

True enough, the company’s claims proved true. We were able to play games with very little to no lags. One thing we experienced, though, was that the phone died during our AnTuTu benchmark and we couldn’t turn it back on after several attempts. It still had 98% of battery before it died so we’re sure it wasn’t out of juice. After giving it the classic knock/tap on the back (like an old television that won’t work), it vibrated and restarted to its welcome screen. After that, everything went back to normal.

Battery performance is also commendable. It packs a 3000mAh battery that got us to almost 5 hours of combined use of streaming social media sites, gaming, and video playing. After which, we were still left with 47% of battery.

Using this tablet to call is also possible since it can support a single SIM card. Just open the flap on the upper left side of the device and you’ll find its slot next to the miniSD’s.

Overall, the Superion Probe is worth your Php3,999 if you mostly find yourself using a tablet for playing games. It’s got a good processor-GPU tag team that delivers well and though we had a little mishap, we were generally satisfied with our experience.
