Facebook will clean “like if, share if” posts & other spam

Facebook is finally cleaning up our news feeds that are usually full of spam as they feel that the news feed is designed to give you information that is actually relevant. This includes the lessening of links that redirect you to spam sites, like-baiting posts, and content that is repetitive in nature.

Facebook spam

What Facebook will be doing is that with their improved spam detection, they will have these types of content appear less frequently on your news feed. With this, say goodbye to posts of photos and links by people & pages, friends or not, that do not really matter to us, and instead, expect more relevant content on Facebook.

Oppo Find 7a hands-on demo – 50MP photos and gestures

Oppo officially launches the Find 7a and at the same time, released the price of the Find 7. In this quick video demonstration, an Oppo representative shows us how the 50MP photos coming from a 13MP camera does its trick and how off-screen and on-screen gestures work.

The idea behind Oppo’s whopping 50-megapixel images is that you take a photo of a still object for a few seconds. What the sensor does is take 10 photos and digitally stitch them altogether to achieve 50MP shots. According to the representative, these images could be printed on a tarpaulin as big as 10 square meters.

The off-screen gestures are pre-set gestures that could function even when the screen is locked. For example, two taps on the screen activates it – pretty much like LG’s Knock On feature. Drawing a circle brings you to the camera, while drawing a letter “V” opens the flashlight. With on-screen gestures, you can customize the symbol for specific functions. In this case, a letter “R” was assigned to let you record videos instantly.

Gestures on video playback are also present thanks to its ColorOS 1.2 on top of its Android 4.3. Swiping the right side vertically while playing videos toggles the volume control while the left is for brightness. Users can also multitask with this device like, for example, watch a video and go write a new message.

Oppo Find 7a gesture

These are just some of the many features of Oppo Find 7a. It is now available at any authorized Oppo retailers in the Philippines with a price of Php22,990. Stay tuned for our full review of this new player.

Cherry Mobile Urban leaked ahead of launch

There have been a handful of photos circulating around the web of what is believed to be a brochure/flyer from Cherry Mobile which gives us an early peek at the company’s upcoming handsets, one of which is the Cherry Mobile Urban.

Specs-wise, the rumored CM Urban doesn’t differ much from other budget Android smartphones we’ve seen in recent times. It has a 4.5-inch IPS display with qHD resolution, an 8MP shooter at the back with BSI sensor paired and a 2MP camera on the front.

Its engine configuration is also nothing out of the ordinary. It comprises of a 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 1GB RAM and a modest 4GB internal storage.

Cherry Mobile Urban specs:
4.5-inch IPS display @ 960×540 pixels, 245ppi
1.3GHz quad-core processor
1GB RAM
4GB internal storage
3G/HSPA+
Dual-SIM, Dual-Standby
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Miracast support
8MP rear camera with Flash
2MP front-facing camera

If there’s anything about the CM Urban that you can probably write home about, it might be its software. Based on the leaked flyer, the Cherry Mobile Urban will run on Android KitKat right off the bat, making it one of the first few local handsets to run the said version of Google’s OS.

But even that is questionable at best since Cherry Mobile has yet to deliver on their promise to update the Cosmos Z2 to Android KitKat which was slated to happen last month. Well, Kitkat or not, the Cherry Mobile Urban is still a pretty decent handset for its price which is pegged at Php4,699.
