According to a report by OnGamers.com, WCG CEO Brad Lee has sent out an email to WCG partners that the South Korean esports organization will not hold tournaments and events for 2014. The decision was made “after considering the current global trend as well as the business environment.”

“This year, World Cyber Games Inc. will not organize tournaments and events, including the World Cyber Games finals world.”

Although Lee’s email specified this year’s WCG tournaments and events, it also brought a sense of foreboding for future WCG events when he bid farewell to the organization. Other reports have already been published stating that WCG is actually shutting down for good.

“There are many great moments based on your dedication. Although the brand has disappeared but WCG spirit will remain forever in the hearts of each player and fans.

This moment is very difficult and painful for me. However, I must say goodbye to the WCG.”

The World Cyber Games inaugurated in 2000 and held annual tournaments up to 2013. The Philippines’ MSI-Evolution Gaming Team (MSI-Evo GT) brought home a bronze medal in WCG 2012 and a silver medal in WCG 2013 for the FPS game Crossfire.

Author’s note: Story is still developing. At the time of writing, WCG hasn’t released any official statement on their website or in any of their official social media accounts.
