Nikon 1 AW1: World’s first rugged MILC

Nikon has recently added another camera to its 1-series lineup, the AW1. But instead of a photographic upgrade, the imaging giant’s new mirrorless camera gains resistance against water and shock up to some extent, making it the world’s first underwater digital camera with interchangeable lens.

Specs-wise, the AW1 offers the same feature set of the non-rugged Nikon 1 J3; a 14MP CX-format CMOS sensor, an EXPEED 3A image sensor and 135-point contrast-detect AF areas plus 73-point phase-detect AF areas.

In addition to this, Nikon has also added other features that would definitely come in handy for outdoor shoots. This includes GPS, altimeter, depth gauge, electronic compass and horizon indicator. The camera also comes with a built-in Wi-Fi which is becoming a staple for these kinds of camera.

This package includes a water/shock-proof 11-27.5 f/3.5-5.6 kit lens which was launched alongside the new camera. It will also be available in two-lens bundle which will include a 10mm f/2.8 rugged lens.
