In all of its glory, it seems that Sony has overlooked a key security aspect on their current flagship. But unlike the other reported glitches on other handsets, the security bypass on the Xperia Z is fairly easy to exploit.
The man responsible for this exposé is Scott Reed. He uploaded a short video on YouTube showing how he was able to bypass his Xperia Z’s lockscreen and access everything as if the phone was unlocked.
By inputting a set of numbers and characters on the dialer, he gained access to the phone’s internal menu. From there, he chose a certain selection and then presses the Home key which allows him to fully unlock the device.
However, this shouldn’t concern users and potential buyers too much as fix through a software update is expected to come in the coming days. In fact in recent times, Sony has released a timely firmware update for Xperia Z that addresses some of the bugs on the phone, specifically the sudden-death issue.

Update: Apparently, the Sony Xperia Z isn’t the only handset affected by this bug. According to our reader @Roiji, the security flaw is also present on his Xperia V. And just recently we tried it with the Xperia ZL and it can also be unlocked using the same method.
