Sony launches My Xperia remote security service

Sony has recently launched its new remote security service for Xperia smartphones called ‘My Xperia‘.

In essence, My Xperia is similar to Apple’s ‘Find my iPhone’ service which helps you track your lost or stolen smartphone. With My Xperia, you just have to sign in on myxperia.sonymobile.com with the Google account you use on your Xperia and it will automatically link your smartphone to the My Xperia service. From there you can do the following:

  • Locate your smartphone on a map
  • Sound an alert to get someone’s attention – it’ll also override silent mode and wake the display
  • Lock the phone to keep info private, and ping a message with contact details
  • Erase both internal and external SD card info / data if required

My Xperia is currently in a “phased rollout” in Nordic countries on select 2012 Xperia smartphones running ICS. Global release will be Q2.
