Pnoy SONA 2012: all ready

Everything’s set for President Aquino’s report to the nation later.Storm Ferdie exited the country already, but there will still be no classes in some Quezon City public schools which are in close proximity to Batasang Pambansa, the venue of the President’s speech. This annual event is such a big deal, and even fashion watchers regularly await what the women legislators are wearing ( related question: will Shalani Soledad show up?)

The State of the Nation speech is still a mystery up to its time of delivery but there are already some things to expect. According to reports, Pnoy will push for the passage of the sin tax reform bill and push for the increase in excise taxes on mining as a way of earning more revenues for the government. He’s also expected to lay out a proposed amendment to the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

The Pnoy administration still has four years to go and believe it or not, I am hopeful that things will turn around when 2016 comes around. I am hearing of good economic indicators for the Philippines which will hopefully translate to more jobs for Filipinos. I am dreaming of the day when Pinoys will choose to stay in the motherland because life is good enough where we are. And it will all happen if elected officials will lead by example. Bayan po muna sana bago ang sarili.

More on the 2012 SONA later.
