The Baroque Church of Santa Maria Ilocos Sur

When I recently visited the Ilocos Region, I included the Santa Maria Church in my travel itinerary. It?s my second time to be in this place but I still feel excited to see this masterpiece once again.

The Church of Santa Maria sits on a hill and one needs to climb the 85 steps made of granite slabs that has been imported all the way from China. Thick buttresses were built on its side to protect it from strong earthquakes.

The Baroque Church of Santa Maira Ilocos Sur, built during the Spanish times also served as a citadel before.

What I really liked about this church is its symmetry. Its belfry is also a stunner. The four-level octagonal shaped belfry still rings its bells to call people to gather during Sunday Masses.
