Tizen-powered Samsung Z2 to officially launch on August 23

As an update to the budget-friendly Z1 that was announced early last year, Samsung is set to launch its successor — the Z2. Just like the previous model, it would run on Tizen OS along with entry level specs.

The confirmation came from a media invite by Samsung India and although they didn’t really confirm what device they will launch, Phonearena is certain that it’s “definitely a Tizen event,” where they will show off the new Z2.

As for the specs, there have been leaks that surfaced before which suggest an affordable smartphone with a 4-inch AMOLED display with 800 x 480 resolution, quad-core processor at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage, 5MP rear camera, VGA front camera, and LTE connectivity.

A leaked video also shows more of its features:

Since the previous Z1 was priced under $100, do expect that the upcoming handset will have a similar asking price once it makes its official introduction.

Xperia Z2 vs Z3 vs Z4: Can You Spot the Difference?

Sony officially unveiled the Xperia Z4 about a week ago. It is their newest flagship smartphone, but from the Japanese press release that came with the announcement, it seems like there’s just been a few upgrades from its predecessors. We placed the Z4’s revealed specs beside the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 — can you spot their differences?

It seems like a bump in the processing aspect is the biggest upgrade we can see in Sony’s new flagship phone. From the major specs, screen size remained the same as well as the amount of RAM installed in the device.

The company’s 20.7-megapixel camera has also been retained. It’s understandable, though, since Sony’s Exmor R sensor already produces crisp images with natural colors thanks to its BIONZ image processing engine. Also, front camera has been improved to 5.1 megapixels.

If we were to ask you, will these new upgrades be enough to persuade you to get one when it comes here in the Philippines? As of now the Xperia Z4 is only exclusive to Japan, but stay tuned as we wait for any news regarding its possible local launch.
