Cherry Mobile Fit Hands-on, First Impressions

Apart from the Explorer 2 smart action camera, Cherry Mobile has also sent in a new device. It’s not a smartphone, not a camera, but a wearable. Looks like Cherry Mobile is serious in venturing to different markets now. This is our initial impressions of the Cherry Fit.

cherry-fit-1

The Fit is Bluetooth activity tracker. It has a near 1-inch display that recognizes simple touch and swipe gestures. There’s a single button on the side for selection and waking up the display of the device.

cherry-fit-7

The strap used is rather questionable, well at least with the unit provided to us. Its faux-leather material is not exactly the appropriate look for a fitness band but it should do well for everyday casual use. The bands don’t seem to be swappable either.

cherry-fit-4

The device also doubles as a headset, simply detach it from the wristband and voila, you can now slip it in your ear like your usual Bluetooth headset.

cherry-fit-5

When removed from the band, the Fit reveals its earpiece, which has an extra earbud included, and the micro-USB for charging. We can’t help but see an incarnation of the Huawei TalkBand B2. These two devices have so much in common.

cherry-fit-6

The Fit can show date and time, weather, and notifications on its small display. Being an activity tracker, it’s pedometer counts your steps, can time your run, and it can also calculate the calories you were able to burn.

cherry-fit-3

Interestingly, Cherry has its own app for the wearable that you can download through the Play Store. The app, when paired to the phone, compiles all the data recorded on the Fit. Here you can keep an eye on your performance and also set a goal. Tweaking the Fit is also done through the app including software updates, alarm setup, and notification settings.

cherry-fit-8

As listed by Cherry, the Fit is dust and splash proofed, although there’s no certification. So, it’s exactly a thing you should keep wearing when in the shower or swimming pool.

Cherry Mobile Fit specifications:
0.96-inch PMOLED display @ 64 x 128 pixels
G-sensor
Bluetooth 4.1
1000mAh battery
46.6 x 20 x 10.5 mm
25 g

For Php3,499, it’s one of the cheapest activity tracker and Bluetooth headset in the market. We’ll be testing out the Fit, along with the Explorer 2 smart action camera to see how the new Cherry devices fair. Check back for our full review.

Epson launches Runsense SF-110 activity tracker

Although we commonly see Epson with their printers (with some lasting 2 years on a single ink refill), the Tokyo-based giant announces its new Runsense SF-110 wearable that targets individuals with an active lifestyle.

The Runsense SF-110 tracks the wearer’s activities like the steps taken, calories burned, distance, pace, time, laps, altitude, and more. This wearable, just like most of its peers, transfers accumulated data onto a smartphone using the company’s Epson Run Collect app. What’s good about this is that the device could sync its data not just through its own software, but also using other apps like MapMyRun or Strava.

Below are some of its key features:

  • GPS tracking — track your route and distance run via a highly-accurate sensor that quickly locates the nearest signal
  • Track daily steps — built-in accelerometer counts every step
  • Count daily calories — identify how many calories you’ve burned throughout the day
  • Lap timer — keep track of your time, lap by lap
  • Supports popular running apps — easily transfer your data to MapMyRun, Strava and others
  • Long battery life — seven days of fitness tracking and 10 hours with GPS on
  • Small, lightweight and water resistant — won’t interfere with your workout
  • Easy-to-read LCD display — view real-time data
  • Available in three stylish colors — choose the look that fits you best

The Runsense SF-110 is available in three colors including black, green and bright blue for $139 (approx. Php6.5K). It is up for orders through specialty running retail shops and Epson.com.

Misfit intros affordable activity tracker Flash Link

We’ve previously seen Misfit‘s activity wearing device, and now the company unveils a more affordable gadget that tracks what you do on the day, and even when you sleep at night. The company also released a new app that adds new features to its devices.

misfit-link-app

The Misfit Flash Link looks the same as the Php7K-worth Misfit Shine. It also has the same basic features (monitoring steps, calories burned, distance, sleep quality and duratio) but the new Flash Link is cheaper at $19.99 (approx. Php900 if directly converted). In addition, the tracker clips on to the user, instead of wearing it like a bracelet.

On the other hand, they also announced their new app — the Misfit Link. As mentioned earlier, this app offers new functionalities to the user like acting as a wireless camera shutter trigger and music controller.

The new Misfit Link app lets you use any Flash to take a selfie with your phone camera app or Snapchat; control your music with Spotify, Pandora, and more; or advance slides in a presentation. Additional functionality is coming soon, including IFTTT and Logitech Harmony integrations. The iOS app is available for download now; an Android version will be released next month.

Interested? It’s still unclear when the affordable Flash Link will be available in the Philippines, but if it does make it here there’s a good chance that we’ll be seeing it again on PowerMac just like the Misfit Shine.
