Sun Life marks Earth Hour with Philips, WWF

Sun Life of Canada (Phils) Inc. will support Earth Hour on March 29 (Saturday) by switching off the lights from 8:30 to 9:30 pm in its LEED-certified building in Bonifacio Global City.

“Caring for the environment has always been our advocacy at Sun Life and this is heavily instilled in our culture and corporate social responsibility,” said Sun Life Chief Marketing Officer Mylene Lopa. Sun Life is the first company in the Philippines to receive a GOLD Certification from LEED for Core and Shell. Among the environmentally friendly and energy efficient features of the Sun Life Centre are the motion sensor lighting, which automatically shuts off the lights if no one is in the area; and the double glazed glass windows which illuminate the interiors while blocking out the heat. “Marking Earth Hour is our simple way of reiterating our commitment to the environment and enjoining the public to help address the problems of climate change,” Lopa added.

Together with Philips, a staunch supporter of the environment and a tenant of the Sun Life Centre, and the World Wide Fund Philippines (WWF), the organization behind Earth Hour, Sun Life will hold a simple ceremony at the roof deck of their building followed by the switching off of lights. Once the lights are out, Philips LED tea lights, a safe, energy-efficient form of lighting, will be switched on.

According to Philips Country Manager Fabia Tetteroo-Bueno, one of their company’s major thrusts is to accelerate the switch to more energy efficient lighting. “The Earth Hour is a good opportunity to further highlight that,” she said. “We’re happy to be working with Sun Life for Earth Hour this year.”
