Samsung outs EVO Plus 256GB microSD card

Samsung Electronics has announced its latest microSD card with 256GB capacity – the Samsung EVO Plus.

The EVO Plus 256GB microSD card is aimed at premium smartphones and tablets, 360-degree video recorders, action cameras, and drones. It claims up to 12 hours of 4K UHD video recording or 33 hours in Full HD, and uses the company’s V-NAND technology for read and write speeds of up to 95MB/s and 90MB/s, respectively.

Samsung announces mass production of 256GB UFS 2.0 storage

Samsung Electronics has announced that is now mass producing the industry’s first 256GB mbedded memory based on the Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 2.0 standard for high-end mobile devices.

According to Samsung, the new high-density UFS memory module offers speeds that are nearly twice as fast as a SATA SSD for PCs. It can handle “up to 45,000 and 40,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) for random reading and writing respectively, over two times faster than the 19,000 and 14,000 IOPS of the previous generation of UFS memory.”

In addition, it’s extremely compact (smaller than a microSD card) and can transfer data up to 850MB/s, with a sequential write speed of up to 260MB/s, making it easier for mobile devices to handle large files such as 4K videos.

To date, the most common largest internal storage capacity in smartphones is 128GB. With the said new memory chips, you can expect future flagship smartphones to carry 256GB of internal storage, perfect for media heavy users.

Sony outs USB Type-C OTG storage device

Sony has released a USB OTG device featuring the new Type-C standard and up to 64GB internal storage.

According to Sony, the new USB 3.1 Gen1 CA1-series utilizes “dual connectors” which includes the new standard USB Type-C and Type-A, allowing it to support Windows, Macintosh, Android and Chromebook devices.

It also boasts transfer speeds of up to 130 MB/s (read), and available in 16/32/64GB storage variants. Pricing is yet to be announced but will be available in February 2016.
