Samsung Galaxy Note 2 gets Android KitKat update

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 owners can now expect an over-the-air KitKat update for their devices as the company started rolling them out. Open line owners are expected to get it first, while those under carriers are next in line.

Among the new features of the Android 4.4.2 update include:

Full screen album art
Option to bring camera shortcut on the lock screen
Transparent status bar
Wireless printing functionality
NFC tap-to-pay support
Option to set default messaging and launcher apps
Revamped response time and speed of the phablet.

On top of the standard Android update, Samsung is also throwing in a couple of extras like the latest Samsung Knox and Samsung Wallet.

Samsung Galaxy S3 & S4 to get Android 4.3 next month

According to SamMobile Samsung’s current flag bearer, the Galaxy S4, as well as its predecessor is going to get a firmware update this October; bringing its OS version to Android 4.3 and is said to bring a few enhancements to these devices.

Moreover, the website claims that the Galaxy Note 2 will also get the same treatment, but at later time which they estimated to be around November or early December. Other candidates that are said to receive the updates are the two handsets (Mega 5.8 & 6.3) under Galaxy Mega lineup.

Of course, as you might expect, the roll out date may vary from region-to-region and from telco-to-telco. As such, it’s best to not get our hopes too high and just let it take its course.

Sun Cellular offers Galaxy Note 2 on Plan 1699

PLDT-owned Sun Cellular has recently announced in their Facebook page the latest addition to their premium handset offering – the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

The 5.5-inch handset will be offered under the Plan 1500 with and additional cash-out which, if broken down to a monthly fee, will equate to PhP199. If we are to multiply that by 30, which is the duration of the lock-in period of the said postpaid plan, that’s a total of Php5970 cash-out on top of the Php45K total that you have to pay for the plan itself.

Sun Cellular’s offer is actually the cheaper than what Smart (UnliData Plan 1500 + Php11,500 cash-out) and Globe (UnliSurf Plan 1799 + Php4,800 cash-out) is currently offering. Sun’s modified Plan 1699 includes unlimited internet and unlimited inter-network voice calls and SMS. Moreover, you’ll also get 250 worth of SMS to other networks, 60 minutes worth of IDD calls and Unlimited calls to Sun Cellular landline in selected areas.
