Modder sets new record for AMD FX-8370, tops at 8722.78MHz

Some two weeks ago, we’ve seen how the Intel Core i7-4770K has been pushed to its limits, setting a new record at 7193.8MHz. Now it’s an AMD processor turn to make the headlines as a Finnish modder named The Stilt has successfully overclocked all of the eight cores of the FX-8370 all the way up to 8722.78MHz.

AMD FX-8370 OC rig

Prior to this incredible rig, the record was held by Andre Yang who has successfully pushed an FX-8150 to 8794MHz. However, it’s good to note that although The Stilt’s record was slightly lower than Yang’s, the previous record-holder only achieved the feat using 2 of the 8 cores of the chipset.

The Stilts, on the other hand, was able to overclock all of the FX-8370’s cores en route to setting a new world record. Below are the components that he used:

ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z
4.1GHz AMD FX-8370 processor, up to 4.3GHz
8GB AMD Performance DDR3 RAM, 1866MHz (OC’d to 2218MHz)
ASUS Radeon R9 290X Direct CU II GPU
Liquid Nitrogen cooling

NVidia unveils Tegra K1 Denver, 64-bit processor for Android

Nearly a year after the Apple A7 processor made its debut alongside the iPhone 5S, it’s Android’s turn to get a taste of 64-bit processor with NVidia leading the charge with its recently announced NVidia Tegra K1 Denver.

NVidia Tegra K1 Denver

NVidia’s new mobile chipset features two “Project Denver” CPU cores which has a top speed of 2.5GHz and supports up to 8GB of DDR3L RAM. As customary with NVidia’s high-end mobile chipset, the dual-core chipset is paired with the company’s own Kepler-based GPU with a staggering 192 cores and has a frequency of 950MHz.

Tegra K1 Denver GPU

The combination of its dual-core Project Denver CPU and 192-core GPU is touted to bring mobile users “PC-class performance, for standard apps, extended battery life and the best web browsing experience”.

The first batch of devices which will run on the new NVidia Tegra K1 Denver are expected to make its debut in the latter part of the year which may possible include the long-rumored HTC Nexus 9 aka Volantis.

AMD announces three new Kaveri APUs

Following the announcement of the mobile Kaveri APUs back in June, AMD has added three new desktop APUs which have a lower TDP compared to the first wave of Kaveri APUs.

These three new Kaveri APUs fills in the mid-range segment with the A10-7850K still leading the pack with its quad-core CPU that can go up to 4.0GHz at full load. The new A10-7800 has pretty much the same configuration as AMD’s flagship APU, but has a slightly lower speed compared to it and is $18 cheaper.

Joining the A10-7800 are the A8-7600 and A6-7400K which are equipped with 10 and 6 compute cores respectively. The former’s quad-core chipset is paired with the same Radeon R7 GPU (built-in) found on the A10-7850K but has two less GPU cores to boot.

Meanwhile, the A6-7400K makes do with an integrated Radeon R5 GPU and a dual-core CPU that have a slightly faster clock speed compared to the more expensive A8-7600. Furthermore, budget-minded overclockers will appreciate the fact that this $77 APU can be overclocked to run at a higher frequency.

In addition to having configurable TDP, these three new APUs are all equipped all the technologies and performance enhancements that are present on the previous models. This includes AMD’s proprietary Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA), Graphics Core Next (GCN) and Heterogeneous Uniform Memory Access (hUMA) just to name a few.

Along with the announcement that these three new Kaveri APUs are now available in the market, AMD also announced its new A10 Game Bundle Promo that kicks off this month and will last until October. Basically, users who will purchase any of the A10 APUs within the promo period can select one of the three game titles (Thief, Sniper Elite III and Murdered Soul Suspect) that are up for grabs.
