Philips gift ideas for Lolo and Lola

September is when we recognize Grandparents’ Day but why not turn it to a month long celebration by giving our beloved Lolos and Lolas extra-special gifts from Philips?

We know them by many names—Inang, Itang, Nanay, and Itay, but they are most commonly referred to as Lolo and Lola. Beyond these names, they are our role models, mentors, and best friends who help keep our families together with their wisdom and affection.

“The family is always the focal point of Filipino culture,” shares RJ Buenaventura, General Manager for Philips Philippines Consumer Lifestyle sector. “And our grandparents are always there, playing an important part in our family life in one way or another.”

Pia Umayam, Business Development Manager for Philips Domestic Appliances, recalls: “Our grandparents typically shower us with gifts and affection at a young age—even taking our side whenever our parents were angry at us.”

She continues, “And what better way to show these special people that we equally value them with things that can make their lives healthier and much easier?”

This time, it’s our turn to take care of our Lolos and Lolas by helping them in aspects most important to them. Top of the list are ensuring their health, which you can easily do by providing them the right home partners.

A healthy, home-made meal

“Our Lolos and Lolas are at that stage in their lives when every food choice they make matters,” remarks Pia. “Their health is a top priority and as family, we need to help them make the right diet choices.”

Pia quickly points out, “And eating healthy doesn’t have to compromise taste.”

With the Philips kitchen collection, you can give your grandparents a treat that offers good taste and nutritional value. The Philips Slow Juicer, for instance, lets you make fresh nutrient-rich juices while retaining the core flavor of the fruit.

“The Slow Juicer uses innovative juicing technology that produces the right amount of pulp, foam, and texture to your homemade juice. What’s more, it’s easy-to-use features (single-button and feeding tray) make it the perfect kitchen companion even for our Lolo and Lola,” explains Pia.

To make the perfect main dish, you can give your grandparents the Philips food steamer. With stackable trays and removable bottoms, it is the ideal kitchen partner for Lola whenever she cooks up her favorite family recipes.

Pia shares, “Steaming is a great way to preserve the nutrients of food, as well as its flavors and juices. It even has a flavor booster that adds a shot of aroma of herbs and spices to your food.”

After eating, make sure that your grandparents maintain squeaky clean smiles with the Philips Sonicare EasyClean. This electric toothbrush comes equipped with its patented Sonicare technology that removes twice more plaque than a manual toothbrush.

Additionally, it comes with a dynamic cleaning action that effectively but gently reaches between the teeth and along the gum line.

A cleaner home

This September is also the perfect time to help Lola keep her home spick and span with the Philips bag-less vacuum cleaner, an innovative household appliance that has 20 percent higher suction power.

Pia describes, “It has a PowerCyclone 4 technology that promises a better clean, plus a pleated HEPA filter that catches microscopic vermin that usually causes allergy.”

You can also extend this level of cleanliness to the bedroom with the Philips air purifier, which sterilizes harmful agents in the air with a six-stage clean-air system. This appliance also helps control air quality and has zeolite filters that let it clean itself using active oxygen.

RJ concludes, “The experience, wisdom, and love that our grandparents provide enrich our family life. And this is the perfect month to show them how thankful we are of their presence in our lives.”

Hair grooming tips for the rainy season

During the long and gloomy days of the rainy season, the weather is not the only thing that gets out of control—this also happens for your hair.

“Each time it rains, the air becomes thick with water and hair absorbs the excess humidity like a sponge, leading to brittle, stubborn frizzed hair,” explains RJ Buenaventura, General Manager for Philips Consumer Lifestyle.

He continues, “So, how can you keep your hair under control while keeping it healthy as well? Well, women will be glad to know that there are many ways to help their hair survive the dreaded monsoon months.”

Goodbye moisture, hello frizz-free hair

The rainy days call for a different hair care routine. Pia Umayam, Business Development Manager for Philips Consumer Lifestyle, says “the conditions during this time of the year require a few hair management tweaks.”

When it comes to shampooing, use a lightweight shampoo and conditioner that has ingredients like emollients, proteins, and silicone. According to Pia, “These products fill the gaps of your hair cuticles and lessen the chances of absorbing humidity.”

She adds, “Actually, the secret to keeping your hair from frizzing lies in how you blow dry it. Hair professionals recommend blowing it bone dry to prevent excess moisture. Afterwards, cooling your hair will ensure that the cuticles are closed, so water can’t sneak in.”

The Philips Thermoprotect Ionic Hairdryer is the perfect hair-grooming companion during the rainy season. Its innovative ionic conditioning uses charged negative ions to eliminate static on hair strands.

Pia says that this technology not only helps flatten the cuticles, but intensifies the hair’s glossiness and shine as well. She describes, “This hair dryer even has a cool shot feature that can help seal your hair cuticles.”

Healthy, beautifully styled hair any season

Because the rainy season heightens the risk for hair damage, most hair experts advise to go easy on the styling. Pia explains, “Heat is another enemy of hair and using styling products can cause drastic damage to it.”

Still, she outlines, this is definitely not something that should stop women from styling their hair. According to Pia, this is simply a matter of using the right styling tools.

Going out in the rain with wet hair is a no-no, so dry it first with the Philips Hairdryer with ThermoProtect temperature feature that offers optimal drying to prevent overheating. With its powerful airflow, anyone can easily achieve the style they want minus the damage it typically comes with.

For those who prefer a simple and straight look, Philips Straighteners are the perfect styling partners to use. They have a ThermoGuard feature that prevents hair from being exposed to heat and ionic conditioning that tames frizz.

Pia adds, “Curls are never out of season and they can definitely add a twist to your look during the drab, dreary days. The Philips Conical Curler can help you get stunning but safe curls with its three curling-time options and an indicator that lets you know when your hair is already set.”

She concludes, “Of course, keeping your hair healthy should not be limited to the rainy season. Remember, your crowning glory is constantly exposed to various damaging factors, so make sure you have the right set of hair care tools to keep it at its best condition be it rain or shine.”

The secret to a smooth, clean shave

AquaTouch AT750                                                             AquaTouch AT890

When it comes to truly good grooming, a smooth shave is a must for men, especially for business meetings, religious gatherings, or a special date. But a lot of men have grown wary of razors—it’s a hassle to put on and wash off shaving cream, a burden to replace rusty blades, and literally quite a pain to suffer nicks and cuts.

For a fast, easy and pain-free way to get a killer shave, it’s best to go electric. And with the Philips AquaTouch wet-and-dry shavers, you can get a smooth, clean shave—even while in the shower.

The Philips AquaTouch comes in two models, the AT890 and AT750, which are both designed to give a comfortable dry shave and a refreshing wet shave. The AquaTouch features an inbuilt Aquatec seal which makes the shaver fully waterproof and optimized for use with shaving gel or foam. This means enhanced skin comfort and minimal skin irritation.

The Philips AquaTouch also has rounded low-friction protection caps that adjust automatically to the curves of your face, as well as a Super Lift & Cut feature that lifts hairs away from the skin before cutting them to guarantee a close shave.

AquaTouch AT890

The AquaTouch AT890 is a shaver that utilizes DualPrecision shaving heads that have slots to shave the normal hairs, and holes to shave even the shortest stubble. The full width Pop up Trimmer is the perfect accessory of this model to groom your sideburns and moustache. In addition, the AquaTouch AT890 3-minute quick charger provides enough power for one shave.

Both the AquaTouch AT890 and AT750 models can function for more than 40 minutes with cordless power which is equivalent to at least 14 shaves.

Furthermore, the Philips AquaTouch has been shown to deliver a satisfying shave along with less skin damage compared to a regular blade. In a recent study, dermatologists found that 75 percent of the users tested experienced zero nicks or cuts from wet shaving with the AquaTouch after 3 weeks of use. This is compared to users who experienced an average of 13 nicks and cuts after using their own razor blades.

In terms of reliability and convenience, the Philips AquaTouch also delivers, as it has a long-lasting battery as well as self-sharpening blades that do not need replacing for three years. This means long-term affordability, with the AquaTouch being 40 percent cheaper than blade shaving over three years.

So for those looking to take their grooming to the next level—and enjoy less hassles and costs in the process—give the Philips AquaTouch shavers a try.

A Salute to Mothers Everywhere

In the Philippines, we celebrate March as Women’s Role in History Month in accordance to Proclamation No. 227, signed in 1988. In this month, we recognize the contributions and achievements of the female genderwhich includes the most important women in our lives—our mothers.

Women have contributed much to the development of our nation. There are many we now consider heroes. In the past, their accomplishments have been neglected or relegated as something of lesser importance. But now with keen awareness, we are reassessing their roles and appreciating their participation. In this day and age women especially mothers are able to multitask and perform the multifaceted role of a mom. There are home makers who are also in the corporate world. Some are entrepreneurs who are also experts in raising children.

“Knowing that the task of motherhood is delicate and requiring dedication, Philips Avent has been coming up with innovative products that will help mothers everywhere. This year, it is celebrating 30 years of passionate pursuit of creating products with mothers in mind,” says Me-AnnAchacoso, Philips Consumer Lifestyle Business Development Manager for Health and Wellness.

Philips Avent has been manufacturing products that accompany mothers and babies from “pregnancy to playground,” including newborn starter sets, baby monitors and toddler feeding and drinking. Philips Avent has become the dependable brand for infant feeding, breast pumps, and other baby health and monitoring accessories thus the tag, “Number 1 brand trusted by moms1.” Aside from these, it also champions the cause of mothers and advocates breast-feeding to promote bond between mothers and babies.

On its 30th anniversary, Philips Avent is celebrating years of commitment to being a Mom’s most trusted partner in taking care of her child and this will be done through exciting in-store promotions and activities as part of its year-long celebration. As a kick-off, the company launches the search for 30 women who exemplify and embody the multi-faceted role of a mother. Through these women, Philips Avent will be able to share amazing stories on motherhood and child rearing that every mom can learn from. Their stories are deemed to inspire women and families to celebrate motherhood. Qualified candidates must be moms who were or are Philips Avent users from diverse background who have outstanding tales of motherhood to share.

“With these promotions, we are made more aware of the things mothers go through just to raise us properly and the tremendous amount of love they generously give. We also appreciate the little things that help our mothers get through their tasks,” Achacoso concludes.

Through the years, Philips Avent has been continuously developing innovative products that provide aid to everyday child-rearing situations and activities. It is proof of the unfailing support the company has been giving to advocate mothers and families all over the world. Sun Life marks Earth Hour with Philips, WWF

Sun Life of Canada (Phils) Inc. will support Earth Hour on March 29 (Saturday) by switching off the lights from 8:30 to 9:30 pm in its LEED-certified building in Bonifacio Global City.

“Caring for the environment has always been our advocacy at Sun Life and this is heavily instilled in our culture and corporate social responsibility,” said Sun Life Chief Marketing Officer Mylene Lopa. Sun Life is the first company in the Philippines to receive a GOLD Certification from LEED for Core and Shell. Among the environmentally friendly and energy efficient features of the Sun Life Centre are the motion sensor lighting, which automatically shuts off the lights if no one is in the area; and the double glazed glass windows which illuminate the interiors while blocking out the heat. “Marking Earth Hour is our simple way of reiterating our commitment to the environment and enjoining the public to help address the problems of climate change,” Lopa added.

Together with Philips, a staunch supporter of the environment and a tenant of the Sun Life Centre, and the World Wide Fund Philippines (WWF), the organization behind Earth Hour, Sun Life will hold a simple ceremony at the roof deck of their building followed by the switching off of lights. Once the lights are out, Philips LED tea lights, a safe, energy-efficient form of lighting, will be switched on.

According to Philips Country Manager Fabia Tetteroo-Bueno, one of their company’s major thrusts is to accelerate the switch to more energy efficient lighting. “The Earth Hour is a good opportunity to further highlight that,” she said. “We’re happy to be working with Sun Life for Earth Hour this year.”
