Nexus 6 has a ‘hidden’ feature not seen on its specs list

Google’s homepage for the new Motorola Nexus 6 details its specs and lists down its notable features, but there might be something that they have missed – mentioning that the latest Nexus phone is water-resistant as well.

The official landing page for the Nexus 6 missed this rather important feature of the device. Thankfully, Motorola’s page included this information. According to their site, the Nexus 6 can withstand splashes of water just like the Moto X. Do take note that it’s just safe from splashes and cannot go for a full submersion like the Xperia Z3 (see our hands-on here). If you would check the website under the Water Resistant category, Motorola listed it down as “Yes” with no IP certification.

Google’s official site might not have found this info to be essential to its users thus eliminating the need to list it down. Although not fully waterproof, it’s still good to know that minor contact with water is repelled by the Nexus 6.

Google Nexus 6 to have two display sizes like iPhone 6?

We’ve previously reported the anticipated Nexus 6 to have a large 5.9-inch display, but another data suggests a device with a smaller screen. Are we to expect two different display sizes from Google just like what its rival did with the iPhone 6?

Benchmark from GFXBench

Google Nexus 6 ‘confirmed’ specs from Android Police:
5.9-inch QHD display @ 2560 x 1440 resolution, 496ppi
13MP rear camera with OIS and dual ring flash
2MP front camera
Aluminum frame
Front-facing stereo speakers
Android 5.0
3200mAh battery
Refreshed icons

Android Police previously confirmed that the next Nexus device will indeed be called a Nexus 6 and with it comes a 5.9-inch body. On another website (GFXBench), a benchmark result shows a Motorola Shamu (codename for the Nexus 6) with 5.2-inch display.

For the display sizes, it could simply mean that the data has been reported wrong for one or the other, but with Apple recently launching two variants for its iPhone 6, the idea couldn’t be easily dismissed. In addition, the data above shows that both the alleged 5.9- and 5.2-inch Nexus 6 have QHD displays. Although this may be the case, the former’s rear camera is at 13MP, while the latter is only equipped with a 12MP camera — meaning there’s a possibility for the 5.2-inch variant to have ‘toned-down’ specs different from its bigger brother.

What do you guys think? Is it possible for Google to follow the same path Apple took?

Nexus 6 benchmark surfaces, beats iPhone 6 & Galaxy S5

After seeing the leaked specs of Google’s Nexus 6 (aka Motorola Shamu/Nexus X), a benchmark now surfaces with quite impressive scores.

Seen on a Geekbench performance results, a Nexus X “Shamu” falls third to iPhones on a single-core test above LG G3 and Galaxy S5. What’s more impressive is that on multi-core test or overall performance, the same Nexus X tops the chart at 3,199 against S5’s 2,998 and the iPhone 6’s 2,927.

These results simply back up the previous reports of the Nexus 6 having a 2.6GHz Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB of RAM. As we’ve entered October, expect more details to emerge until we finally come to its launch. Are you ready for this 6-inch monster device from Motorola?

Google Nexus 6 concept image – how thin is enough?

While surfing the Internet, I came across this concept photo of the upcoming Google Nexus 6. I’m sure you’ve scrolled past everything by now and initially checked the photo before reading anything else. As you can see, it is mighty thin.

Now, again, this is just a concept photo of the phone and not official. It came from one Sirkdow Prismatiker who, according to his Twitter page, is an Android developer and a Concept Designer. In his concept, the Nexus 6 will have a metal sheet-like build with a curved top and a flat bottom, camera in the middle, and dual flashes. There’s also a color variation of gold, black, and silver.

After seeing how thin the phone is, I was impressed and already excited to hold this sexy device in my hand. Although after thinking about it, I thought that I would still prefer a thicker smartphone over something that’s for purely aesthetics. Why? Because I like my gadgets with a little bulk and weight in them — just the right amount for a solid feel and good handling. I feel like I would accidentally toss my almost-weightless phone away each time I pull it out of my pocket. Also, a smartphone this thin requires paper-thin internals that we currently don’t have. Even if lighter and thinner components like camera sensors and batteries are developed in the future I’m pretty sure they’re bound to cost a lot during the first couple of years mainly because they’re new innovation.

Personally I think we’ve already reached the ideal thinness with our smartphones today, as far as functionality is concerned.

So I raise a question: Do we really need thinner phones or should smartphone manufacturers shift their attention and concentrate more on other improvements like faster processors and longer battery capacities?
