Microsoft Surface RT 2 gets a USD100 price cut

Microsoft has silently slashed $100 off on all the models of the Windows RT-powered Surface 2 which includes the standard 32GB variant (USD349), the 64GB model (USD449), as well as the LTE-enable version (USD579) which also has a built-in 64GB internal storage.

However, as good as this deal may sound to some, we feel that it’s actually not. For one, this might just be a last ditch effort to sell the remaining units of this rather unsuccessful line up of MS Surface tablets that comes pre-installed with Windows RT, instead of full-blown Windows 8 OS.

Speaking of Windows RT, it’s one of the main reasons why most users shrugged at the thought of getting one of these tablets off the shelves. The lack of native Windows Media Player, coupled with the lackluster support for existing software applications proved huge for the success of the Windows RT in the consumer department.

Microsoft Surface 2 RT specs:
10.6 inch ClearType Full HD Touchscreen Display (1080 x 1920)
1.7Ghz NVidia Tegra 4 (T40) Quad-Core SoC
ULP GeForce GPU
2GB RAM
32GB / 64GB internal storage
Expandable up to 64GB
5MP rear camera
3.5MP front camera
WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n
LTE (Optional, LTE model only)
Bluetooth 4.0
Micro SD support
USB 3.0
Mini DisplayPort
Windows RT 8.1
907g (weight)
275 x 173 x 13 mm (dimensions)

So what’s your take on this recent price cut? Would this make the Surface 2 RT a more viable option, or you’re just better off opting for a Windows tablet from other manufacturers? Share your thoughts on the comments field below.
