ASUS PadFones to have KitKat and ZenUI upgrades

ASUS has just announced that Android 4.4 KitKat updates are soon to roll out for the PadFone 2, PadFone Infinity, PadFone A80, and the new PadFone Infinity models. Not only that, these devices will also be updated to the latest ZenUI.

According to ASUS, the following devices will get their KitKat fixes in no time.

PadFone 2 – update to arrive at end of Q2
PadFone Infinity (for Asia and Russia) – update to arrive at end of Q2
PadFone A80 (for Europe) – update to arrive at end of Q2
New PadFone Infinity – update to arrive in Q3

As we’ve mentioned, the company will also include the newest ASUS ZenUI update so that’s another thing to look forward to. More specific dates regarding the release will still be announced by ASUS so stay tuned.

Google Now Launcher now on Play Store

Since Nexus 5 was launched last November 2013, it had an exclusive launcher that no other Google devices officially have. Three months after that, all Nexus and Google Play Edition smartphones can now have the same experience!

The launcher made its debut with the Nexus 5 along with the Android 4.4 KitKat release. Coming from the default Android launcher, you will notice a better and a more friendly UX. You can now swipe to the farthest left to access Google Now. You can also have a single or even multiple home pages according to your liking. There are a number of new beautiful wallpapers too. The app tray is also polished while the widget list can now be accessed with a long press on the home screen.

Android KitKat for Moto G Dual-SIM rolls out in PH

Just a few weeks after the initial roll out, the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the dual-SIM variant of Motorola’s Moto G is now seeding in the Philippines.

When Motorola started to sell the dual-SIM variant outside of the U.S.A., it was carrying Android 4.3 Jellybean on board. Now, the latest Android Kitkat can now be downloaded via OTA and will bring improvements and enhancements like the Project Svelte optimizations, a new Dialer app, an updated Hangouts with SMS/MMS support, and an updated Google Now.

Nexus 5 in Bright Red is now official

It turns out that all the leaks are true. Google has finally released a bright red Nexus 5, the first Nexus device to have such color.

The pricing remains the same with the 16GB and 32GB variants at $349 and $399 respectively. This bright red Nexus 5 still packs a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch full HD screen, 8MP & 1.3MP cameras, and a 2300mAh battery. It comes with the latest Android 4.4 KitKat.

It is already on sale on Google Play Store in the U.S., U.K., France, Italy, Spain, Australia, India, Japan and Korea. A wider European rollout is expected soon.

Android KitKat 4.4.2 update for Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Sooner than expected, Samsung started rolling out the KitKat update for its flagship device, Galaxy Note 3.

The latest and greatest Android update is hitting your Note 3 devices very soon. The update started in Poland via Samsung’s proprietary software Kies and more regions will soon follow.

Samsung did not release a listing of the new features but a SamMobile insider were able to have an internal document on hand and here are some of the new features:

- Music album art will now be displayed on the Lock Screen when the music player is active
- Camera shortcut is displayed on the lower right of lock screen
- More Emoji icon support
- Selection of default messaging app between Messages and Hangouts
- Easier selection of home launcer (Either TouchWiz Basic or Easy home and 3rd party laucher)
- Integrated and more detailed location services.
- Wireless printing service
- Updated Google apps

Also, along with the phone update, you need to update your Gear Manager app (Galaxy Gear app) to version 1.6 for optimization and use of the new Email application on Galaxy Gear.

The update should be coming here in the Philippines within weeks or next month.
