iPhone 6 may have interchangeable lens

In addition to our previous report regarding Apple’s decision to make the upcoming iPhone’s screen bigger, it seems that company is also planning to include a Bayonet mount on their next project which, presumably, will allow users to slot in different lenses to their iPhone.

This news came after Apple was officially granted patent for a Bayonet Attachment Mechanism by the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) on Tuesday.

According to the documents provided by Apple, the company has looked into other options that will allow an ‘accessory’ to be mounted on the handset. However, the Bayonet mount has proved to be the more fitting choice because they won’t have to alter the design of the handset too much and it’s, by far, the more secure way to fasten a lens to the device compared to other methods like magnetic coupling.

However, in order to incorporate the Bayonet attachment mechanism to the iPhone 6, Apple had to make a few minor adjustments to the iPhone’s design which may involve raising the lens portion a few millimeters above the body. But this doesn’t seem that far-fetched as suggested by the leaked images that show a prototype with protruding lens.

It’s still uncertain whether or not Apple will deploy Bayonet-style mount on their upcoming device/s. But if there’s any truth to these rumors, then it will certainly be a great addition to their iPhone’s feature set and reaffirm its place as one of the best shooters in the mobile category.

iPhone 6 releases September with 4.7” and 5.5” displays?

Reports state that the anticipated iPhone 6 will arrive this September and is ‘likely’ to be offered in 4.7- and 5.5-inch variations. They also added that LCD panels would start mass production on Q2.

Japanese publication Nikkei says that Apple’s next iPhone might be larger than the current 5S, and that the displays will be made at Sharp’s factory in Japan as well as other places. This mass production of liquid crystal display panels will start as early as April-June, according to reports.

“Manufacturers have apparently begun making such components as fingerprint sensors and chips for liquid-crystal drivers.”

In addition, LG Electronics will also join in and supply panels for Apple and these displays are anticipated to deliver significantly higher resolutions than the current models.

As a refresher, the iPhone 5S carries a 4-inch IPS LCD display at 640 x 1136 resolution with a pixel density of 326ppi. It’s safe to expect that we would see something better from the iPhone this year – in terms of display, at least.

iPhone 6 leaked specs

The next flagship from Apple, as history dictates, won’t make its appearance until September at the earliest. But to give you an idea on what it might be sporting, well-known Apple device leaker Sonny Dickson says the iPhone 6 will be thinner, processes better, and would be having a new display technology.

According to Dickson, the iPhone 6 might have the following modifications:

Slimmer 5.58mm body compared to iPhone 5S‘ 7.6mm
Ultra-Retina display with 389ppi compared to the previous 326ppi
A8 processor clocked at 2.6GHz compared to its predecessor’s A7 1.3GHz and iPad Air‘s 1.4GHz

Other rumors from previous reports also stated that the new iPhone would at least have a larger 4.7-inch body, higher 10MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, and an improved filter.

Imagining all those specs packed together into one device, it seems like this could be the long-awaited successor of the iPhone 5 (since 5S is just more of an upgrade for me).

This is just the beginning of rumors surrounding the device and we’ll be getting more bits and pieces of it over time. If you want to keep close tabs on its updates, be sure to watch this space.

Apple to launch 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones in 2014

Ever since Android smartphones broke the 4-inch and 5-inch screen size barriers, people are asking when Apple will do the same with their iPhone. Seems like it’s finally going to happen as reports say that a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone are slated to launch next year.

Bloomberg reports that Apple will continue the trend of launching two iPhones and will introduce two models next year – one with a 4.7-inch screen and another with a 5.5-inch screen.

Although Apple may look like it’s “catching up” in terms of display sizes, the company will introduce more innovative components in its upcoming iPhones like displays with “glass that curves at the edges” which is expected to be featured in the iPhone 6, and “enhanced sensors that can detect different levels of pressure” for the iPhone 7.

Bloomberg’s source say that upcoming iPhones are still in development but are expected to launch in the 3rd-quarter of 2014.
