Gionee teases an upcoming device that is ‘perfectly slim’

Gionee is set to launch a device that will supposedly give light to a new meaning of ‘perfectly slim’ at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The company’s Elife S5.1 that used to rule the smartphone world in terms of thinness.

The company’s Elife S5.1 was once the title-holder for being the slimmest phone ever made (5.15mm). Just a month later Oppo R5 came into play with a body of just 4.85mm thin, but Vivo’s X5 now sets a record for the thinnest smartphone in the market at only 4.7mm.

Right now it seems like Gionee is planning a comeback with their event description that reads:

“This time around, we are here to show the world a product that refines the meaning of ‘perfectly slim’.”

By that it is still unclear whether Gionee is planning to go even way thinner than 4.7mm, or they’ll be coming up with the perfect balance of thinness without compromising key functions and features — hence the ‘perfectly slim’ part. Which road do you think have they chosen to take?

MWC 2015 will be happening on March 2-5 which gives us a little less than a month of waiting for the official announcements. Stay tuned. Meanwhile if thin smartphones are what you’re after, take a look at the slimmest smartphones in the Philippines.

Gionee to launch world’s thinnest phone at 0.2 inches

After we’ve listed the top phones that have the slimmest build and Gionee taking the top spot, the company plans to prove that it can even go thinner than its Elife S5.5. The upcoming phone, now known only as GN9005, is said to sport a 0.2-inch (or 5mm) thin form factor with a quad-core processor running inside it.

Gionee GN9005 alleged specs:
4.8-inch HD AMOLED display @ 1829 x 720 resolution
Quad-core processor
1GB RAM
16GB internal storage
8MP rear camera
5MP front camera
2050mAh battery

Having a slim smartphone definitely adds to the handling and looks of the device, but will the changes made to the size of the components be worth it to achieve a slimmer body? Based on the specs listed we might have a new midrange player in our hands soon.

We should be getting more information on it in the upcoming weeks. Until then, stay tuned and watch this space for future announcements.
