Pugo! the Pinoy Flappy Bird, #1 on Top Charts

Talk about Pinoy pride, the Flappy Bird-inspired game Pugo! ranked first in App Store’s Top Charts. It has only been released less than a week ago, and positive reviews have already been flooding its page.

pugo

Pugo! was created by Manila-based couple Patrick Cabral and Camy Cabral. They are designers and artists who tried their luck making their first game app. Luckily, it was received warmly by people.

Same mechanics as Flappy Bird apply to Pugo! — tapping the screen to make it fly and dodge obstacles. In this game, you are a small pink quail that avoids trees while roaming around the forest. There’s also a happy background music which makes everything light and jolly.

The couple added a new element to the game which I think (former) Flappy Bird players will love: Extra lives! Watch out for Philippine flags and collect them as they save your quail’s behind when it crashes.

Pugo! is now available for download in the App Store. We will try to get in touch with the creators and ask if the game will also come to Android devices.

Flappy Bird was ‘addictive’ according to developer

A few days after the Flappy Bird takedown, Dong Nguyen breaks his silence about his decision.

Dong Nguyen is the developer behind the Flappy Bird game. He recently had an interview with Forbes and he said, “Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed, but it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it’s best to take down Flappy Bird. It’s gone forever.

Yes, you read that right, it is gone forever. Well, in the app stores it is but not for good since a lot of users still have on their phones and the installers of the said game are available online.

Nguyen also declined to confirm the revenue he gets from in-app ads which is estimated at $50,000. He didn’t exactly said how much but it is a lot.

The take down was also not a mistake for him since he have thought it through. Still, other games developed by him are still in the Apple App Store for your enjoyment. We just hope that it will be available for Google Play Store too.

Used iPhone 5 + Flappy Bird = $90,000++

Just when we thought that the Flappy Bird’s removal from the App Store and Play Store is the last we’ll ever hear from the now defunct app, it made the headlines again. This time in a form of used iPhone 5, with the game app still installed on it, which is being sold on eBay for a little under hundred grand!

The eBay user placed the handset for auction on the site with a starting price of USD990. Sixty-five bids (last we checked) later the price skyrocketed from less than a grand to a whopping USD90,200 or almost four million in our local currency! Not bad for a preowned 16GB iPhone 5, eh?

ebay

There are two things that probably crossed your mind when you read about this; (1) Why would anybody, in their right state of mind, buy a used iPhone 5 for a hundred grand just for the sake of Flappy Bird, or (2) Holy Cow, I’m sitting on a frigging gold mine!

For the first question, your guess is as good as ours. As for number two though, well sad to say but YOU’RE NOT. See what happened was eBay has taken the advertisment down (and other similar posts) because it violates the company’s terms of service, here’s why:

Smartphones and tablets must be restored to factory settings before they are allowed to be sold on eBay. Please remove all content from your device, including the game Flappy Bird, before you attempt to list your item again. Please be sure your current and future listings follow these guidelines, keeping in mind that additional violations of this policy could result in the suspension of your account.

We understand that you may have been unaware of this eBay policy, and we encourage you to learn how to keep your experiences on eBay successful.

We appreciate your cooperation.

Thanks,

eBay

Well folks, there goes our shot at being an overnight millionaire, at least through eBay that is. Of course, there are other channels where you can sell your preowned iPhone with Flappy Bird and if you’re lucky enough, maybe you’ll stumble upon a rich bastard that’s willing (*cough* Stupid Enough *cough*) to give you Php4M for it.

Flappy Bird removed from App Store & Play Store

Another Flappy Bird news: The threat was real. Dong Nguyen, the creator of Flappy Bird, took down his viral game Flappy Bird from both the App Store and Play Store.

If you are unfamiliar with the current Flappy Bird craze, you might want to read:
- App Trending: the Flappy Bird game
- Flappy Bird revenues hit $50,000 per day
- Flappy Bird will soon say goodbye?

As proof that the said game was really removed from there respective app stores, check out these screenshots:

From Apple App Store:

From Google Play Store:

There we have it. It’s the real deal but we might see Flappy Bird back soon (just maybe). For those who already downloaded the app, don’t need to worry because it will stay on your phone unless you uninstalled it due to anger and frustration brought to you by Flappy Bird.

Oh, you can still play Squishy Bird though. Just click here.
