The stock Android Email app sees some changes, too.

As you’ve noticed, the upcoming Android L works closely with more colored panels rather than the existing OS. Indeed it is more eye-catching and inviting for the user while having a simpler and cleaner layout. Icons are also smaller and are stacked up neatly. They are also flatter and resemble tile-like shapes seen on Windows 8.

How do you like the layout so far compared to Android KitKat? Are you ready to jump in when this update officially launches or would you rather prefer KitKat’s mostly monochromatic design?

5.5-inch iPhone 6 is bigger than 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3

We’ve been seeing the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 compared to other devices in terms of size, but its 5.5-inch counterpart hasn’t been getting much attention lately. In a video made by Tech Smartt, they pitted the iPhone 6 to other phablets in the market today.

iPhone6 comparison

The iPhone 6 shown here are dummy models wherein case manufacturers base their designs so they would have housing and protectors ready once the device becomes official. It’s likely that these are what we’ll be seeing on their release, but there’s still a chance that changes will be made before the launch.

According to the video and as seen on the screenshot above, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 is thinner and generally larger than the 5.7-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 3. They also placed it side-by-side the 5.5-inch LG G3 and the iPhone 6 still proved to be the bigger phablet. This is mainly because of the bars on top and below the screen which for us, could’ve been used for more screen space.

Though that may be the case, the alleged iPhone 6 has rather thin bezels on the sides which look good in general.

The video also points out how unnatural the 5.5-inch variant is to hold – almost to the point that it would make sense to use a stylus to navigate through it. According to them, the smaller 4.7-inch model is the ideal size for one’s hand to smoothly operate the phone.

You’ve seen the comparisons and if you were to choose between the two variants of the iPhone 6, would you choose the smaller 4.7 inches or the larger 5.5 inches? You can read more of what we know so far on Apple’s next-gen flagship smartphone.

Photo Showdown – Cherry Mobile Flare S2 VS Google Nexus 5

As some of you may know, the Cherry Mobile Flare S2 carries the same camera sensor used in Google Nexus 5. We did a little test to see if this sub-Php5K smartphone can really produce the same quality of photos with a Google-branded device.

Although the two smartphones share the same sensor for taking images, they are not 100% identical in the camera department. The Flare S2 has an 8MP rear camera with Sony IMX179 sensor, while the Nexus 5 has an 8MP with Sony IMX179 sensor and a built-in gyrosocope embedded in the camera for optical image stabilization. This helps counter the unwanted movement of the hands, therefore producing sharper photos. It has a single LED flash, however, and the Flare S2 sports dual LED flash for better performance in low-light situatuions. With those in mind, lets continue on to our photo showdown.

Here are some sample shots from the two devices. The photos are all taken using default settings, no flash, and no adjustments have been done to any of them.

And here are some from the Google Nexus 5:

The photos are both good and acceptable but as you may have noticed, the two cameras didn’t produce the same output in quality. For us, the Flare S2 gave off better blacks than the Nexus 5.  The latter also showed digital noise on some parts of the dark areas. The following photos were taken with the same subject using both devices to easily compare the shots.

Here are two more sample shots on 1000 x 1000px:

It seems to us that the Flare S2 has more contrast and does a better job at shooting outdoors, while the Nexus 5 tries to brighten the image by default — resulting to its blacks not going as deep as the Flare S2′s. Though that may be the case, it worked well in that shot of wine bottles as it effectively showed more details than that of the Cherry Mobile’s.

So what do you guys think? Which camera would you prefer? And overall, which phone would you prefer? For reference, you can read our review of the Cherry Mobile Flare S2 and Google Nexus 5.

LG G Watch and Motorola Moto 360 Comparison

We’ve seen and heard of the two upcoming smart watches from LG and Motorola – the G Watch and Moto 360. They are both powered by Android Wear which is a platform for wearable Android devices. Let’s take a side-by-side look at these two.

LG_G_Watch_Moto_360_compared

The LG G Watch and Motorola Moto 360 have more differences than similarities. Right from the first glance, you’d see the opposite form factors these two have. The G Watch is square like the Samsung Galaxy Gear, while the Moto 360 is blessed with an elegant rounded shape that gives off that classic feel for watches.

The G Watch is available in Stealth Black and Champagne Gold, while the Moto 360 has interchangeable arm bands. In terms of toughness, the G Watch seems to also cater to individuals with an active lifestyle since it’s resistant to water and dust.

Both smart watches have no USB port in them so we’re looking at wireless charging here. Motorola is still yet to unveil their method of charging, but LG has a proprietary five-charging mount that has a special cable and a full charging dock. In addition, the move made by Motorola to incorporate an OLED display makes it consume 40% less battery than an LCD display.

MOTO360

Availability and pricing for both are somewhat identical if rumors prove true. This simply means that these two are meant to be in close competition against each other once they make it to store shelves.

With these details, would you be a G Watch user or a Moto 360 wearer? Do keep in mind, though, that these are just the info revealed to the public as of now. We’ll surely hear more on them as we get closer to their release dates. Stay tuned!
