Android Smartphones Ranked by Battery Life

One of the most important factors when considering a new smartphone is its battery life. And while usage behavior will vary from person to person, there are several ways to create a standard form of measurement.

Higher battery capacity does not always equate to longer battery life. In this chart, we used PC Mark Battery Test to gather the approximated battery life of each of the smartphones included in this list (we have over 20 and we’re adding more as we speak).

New lithium batteries can last two to three times longer

Batteries are one of the major concerns of mobile users today. We want devices with powerful processors and bright displays but the more capable our phones are, the more they drain power from their batteries. Hopefully, these concerns will soon be addressed thanks to researchers who have developed a new lithium battery that could last longer.

lithium ion battery

Lithium ion batteries (the ones inside your smartphones right now) are currently limited and in fact, leave out a large amount of untapped energy. What researchers from Stanford did was to create a technique that harnesses better lithium cells. To get more scientific about it, it “allows for denser, more efficient lithium in the battery’s anode by using a nanoscopic carbon shield that keeps unstable chemicals in check.” This, according to the source, results to a longer battery life that doesn’t decay easily while still remaining to be relatively safe.

One of the people involved in the research mentions that a handset carrying these new lithium cells could have two to three times more battery life than an average phone. So if one full charge lasts you a day, expect 2-3 days of power before needing to plug in to a socket again.

As of now there’s still some work to be done before it starts shipping out, but we can start looking forward to these and finally solve the issue of being “wall-huggers” and always needing to be on the lookout for outlets.

List of smartphones with longest battery life

We all know that having a feature-packed smartphone means nothing if it has poor battery life that won’t last a day without being plugged in. If you’re out looking to upgrade your handset with great battery performance, you might want to check out this list of smartphones with the biggest batteries.

smartphones with longest battery life

The devices are ranked by FindTheBest according to their battery size and overall battery performance. As seen above, the phablet Samsung Galaxy Note 3 tops the chart with its 3200mAh battery despite its big display which should consume more juice. Falling in second place is LG G2 followed by the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S4, with the iPhone 5s tailing the list.

One thing that we can conclude from this graph is that Android smartphones are better in conserving battery with its power-saving apps, both embedded and downloaded; and that battery performance from Windows and Apple phones are far cries compared to Android devices.

So again, if you’re on the prowl for a device that could work for long hours without the help of power banks then hopefully this graph would help.

Update: The source states that the data was derived not only from battery capacities but also from performance benchmarks that include specs of each device. Experiences from different testers were also taken into account.

* Data from manufacturer and carrier websites. Ratings from CNET, LAPTOP Mag, PC Mag, PC World, and WIRED. Performance benchmarks from Geekbench, DxOMark, and Rightware.
