Aboitiz, Ayala Land, Megaworld, SM Prime form consortium for P123.8-B Lakeshore project bid

Four of the biggest companies in the Philippines have formed a consortium to bid for the P123.8-billion Laguna Lakeshore Expressway and Dike Project (LLEDP).

Holding firm Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV), real estate giants Ayala Land Inc. (ALI), Megaworld Corporation (MEG) and SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SMPH) agreed to form Trident Infrastructure and Development Corporation (TIDC), and acting together, have formed a consortium in order to pre-qualify for the LLEDP and evaluate the feasibility of the project with the view of submitting a competitive bid proposal for what is considered to be the biggest public private partnership (PPP) project of the Aquino administration.

The project includes the construction of a 47-kilometer expressway and a 45-kilometer flood control dike, and the reclamation of around 700 hectares of land in the western part of Laguna Lake.

Dubbed as “Team Trident”, the consortium’s four members will each have an effective equal share of 25 percent. It combines the infrastructure expertise of the Aboitiz and Ayala groups as well as the reclamation and land development experience of Aboitiz, Ayala Land, Megaworld and SM.

The consortium also benefits from the combined financial muscle and the national and international network of experts that the four companies have, which will be able to benefit millions of Filipinos and thousands of businesses along the western shore of Laguna de Bay.

Trident brings together the expertise, experience, financial strength, and network that is needed to successfully execute a project the size and scale of LLEDP.

Shell unveils Shell Advanced Ultra with PurePlus Technology

Shell Philippines unveiled their revolutionary motorcycle engine oil that is made from natural gas, the Shell Advance Ultra with PurePlus Technology.

“This is a revolutionary product in the motorcycle engine oil market. With natural gas-based technology, a clean and pure starting point, we have basically reimagined and reinvented our synthetic lubricants, and enhanced our products’ performance,” said Dennis Javier, Shell Lubricants Business Manager for Thailand and Philippines.

The PurePlus Technology is a gas-to-liquid process that was developed over 40 years of research. It converts natural gas into crystal-clear base oil with virtually none of the impurities found in crude oil. This is paired with the Active Cleansing Technology to create a fully synthetic lubricant that cleans as it protects the engine, helping prevent the build-up of dirt, and aiming for smoother, more responsive experience for bikers across the globe.

The superior performance of Shell Advance Ultra with PurePlus Technology is marked by reduced friction for better fuel economy, and enhanced viscosity that maintains the oil’s performance not only in extreme temperature but in low temperatures as well – flowing rapidly for easier engine start-up and faster engine warm-up.

“With an ever increasing number of motorcycles on Philippin roads, we believe Shell Advance Ultra with PurePlus Technology will improve the riding experiences of the bikers, given the varied climatic and geographical conditions in the country,” Javier concluded.

Make A Smart Start, Free Shopping Treats for BDO Credit Cardholders

Every new day comes with a renewed sense of optimism. Whether it’s the beginning of the month or year, your birthday or a random Saturday afternoon, you can get started with your goals whenever you feel inspired and motivated.

And this life is yours to make. Whatever you desire—a journey around the world, a green and healthy lifestyle, a vast expanse of knowledge or even simply gaining financial independence, choose to become the kind of person you’ll most definitely be proud of!

Get into the habit

Spending is part and parcel of everyday life. In order to survive, spending is a must. That is why it is only practical and sensible to pay close attention to how you spend your hard earned money. If you are committed to spend wiser this time around, here are some practical tips you can look into.

Set personal financial goals. The key step towards smarter spending is knowing your priorities. Create specific financial goals—it can be as simple as saving up for a new gadget or a much deserved holiday getaway or as major as setting aside a portion of your income so you can make a down payment for a car or a home that you can truly call you own. Focusing on achieving your financial goals will help you better manage your spending habits.

Keep tabs on your purchases. Start paying close attention to your spending and expenses. Keep all your receipts, list down your daily expenses on a notebook or better yet, download a spending tracker app on your smartphone. This will help you determine where your money is going and identify the areas that you can adjust or cut back on, if need be.

Have a list ready. Every time you head out to the mall or grocery store, make sure to bring a shopping list with you. That way, you can control what you place in your cart and ensure that you only buy the things that are necessary and thus essentially avoid overspending or buying on impulse.

Embrace frugality. Being frugal doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t have money to spare or you have to sacrifice enjoying life, it only means you are being wise about where you spend your money on. Making this a habit can take a little getting used to. You can start by preparing your own lunch for work a few days a week instead of eating out everyday. Aside from saving money, you’ll also be able to make healthier choices.

Play the waiting game. Whenever you get that sudden urge to shop and buy something—a new handbag, a game console, the latest smartphone, etc. give yourself plenty of time to think about the purchase. Sleep on it and see how you feel the next day or week. Weigh the pros and cons so you can make an informed decision. Consider your budget or savings if you can really afford the purchase without sacrificing your financial goals. Maybe after waiting it out, you might actually realize that you don’t really need the item and save a good amount of money.

Look around. Before you hit the checkout counter, make sure you’ve done your part in finding out the best deals available for the item/s that you want to purchase. You may take advantage of discount coupons and online group buying site exclusive offers or wait for regular mall-wide sale days. Go ahead and scout different stores and shops for better price options that will suit your budget.

By being conscious of how and where you spend your money, you can get into the habit of spending smart in no time. Remember, it’s not about how much you earn, but how much you save that really matters.

Spend smart with the right credit card!
Smart spending can also equate to savings. You don’t have to deprive yourself of the things that you want, you just need to make the right choices so you can get the most out of your money.

Maybank Philippines, Inc. (MPI) has closed a two-year collective bargaining agreement with the 500-strong members of the MPI Employees’ Union in a record breaking two-day negotiation.

The agreement struck by Maybank Management with MPI Employees’ Union is in line with the Bank’s goal to drive a positive behavioral change among employees; establish a “Pay-for-Performance” culture to promote excellence and high performance; and to have a win-win relationship among all parties that would result in increased productivity, better performance and a stronger partnership.

The CBA, which covers the year 2015 and 2016, includes a PhP30,000 signing bonus for all regular rank and file employees as of Dec. 31, 2014. Meanwhile, a pro-rated amount will be enjoyed by probationary employees who are regularized within January 2015. Also included in the agreement is a PhP1,000 salary increase each for 2015 and 2016 and a performance-based merit increase for all regular employees as of end-2014.

Other enhanced monetary benefits in the agreement include a monthly PhP700 monthly allowance for tellers; PhP300 transportation allowance for employees assigned in the Head Office and Metro Manila; PhP200 transportation allowance for provincial employees; and a PhP9,000 annual allowance for employees’ medical, dental, and optical benefits.

Meanwhile, the Union is also provided a space, free of charge, in the Legaspi Towers 300 building to serve as the headquarters of the Provident Fund and the Cooperative. Members are also given a 15-day vacation leave, which can be carried over and availed until March 31 of the following year. The Union’s health maintenance organization (HMO) plan is also transferred to Maxicare Health Corp., the HMO plan of MPI officers. Lastly, members are also given four sets of uniforms and two TIGER shirts-MPI employees’ shirts worn every Friday of the month-for free.
