Globe adds more 700MHz cell sites across Metro Manila

Globe is aggressively rolling out 700MHz sites across the country with the main focus in the congested Metro Manila network. It has been almost 3 months since the telco first fired up its 700MHz spectrum.

With reference to the image above, most of the major business districts and highly-populated areas in the Metro have already been covered by the prized spectrum. There are more than 150 sites that support 700MHz have been rolled out and most of them are in Metro Manila.

The company plans to activate more than 500 sites across the country by the end of the year. With the majority of the sites located in Metro Manila area, the telco could be able to cover most of the metropolitan district. With this, their subscribers should expect better mobile internet experience.

Following the acquisition of San Miguel’s BellTel assets, Globe will also deploy newer and better equipment to their radio base stations located in 95% of total municipalities and cities in the country. And, aside from the 700MHz band, the telco also gained additional allocations with the use of other frequencies like 1800, 2300, and 2600MHz.

Cherry Mobile Cubix Morph Unboxing, First Impressions

Cherry Mobile, under their sub-brand Cubix, has updated their convertible line of dual-boot devices. This is the Cubix Morph, a tablet bundled with a keyboard cover that runs both Android and Windows. It was just made available about a few days ago and here’s our initial impression of the tablet fresh from retail shelves.

The package of the Cubix Morph is pretty standard. You only get the unit that’s already wrapped with its keyboard cover, a DC-in charger, and a few pamphlets. There’s no micro-USB cable and a travel charger included but rest assured, it can be charged through its micro-USB port as well.

The tablet itself is fairly large due to its 10.1-inch IPS LCD sporting a WXGA resolution. That’s 1280 x 800 pixels in a 16:10 aspect. Clearly, a thick bezel borders the device although it helps in handling. A 2MP camera and an LED indicator hide above the display while a capacitive home is placed below.

The right side of the tablet doesn’t have any ports or buttons.

The left side houses a number of ports namely the 3.5mm headphone jack, DC-in, full-size USB 3.0 port, mini HDMI, and a micro-USB port for charging and data connectivity. A flap hides a microSD card slot.

The top of the tablet has the volume rocker and power/lock button while the bottom end has the Pogo pins and connecting dock for the cover.

The back features a circular pattern to the center with a printed Windows logo. A 2MP rear shooter is present up top while down below is a pair of stereo speakers. The battery sealed inside is rated at 6600mAh.

As for the build of the tablet, it is cheap as it gets. It’s made out entirely out of plastic with annoying creaks when lifted from the tablet.
Even the display doesn’t have any scratch-resistant glass on it for protection. Although, the suede fabric of the keyboard cover is just pleasant to hold and carry around. The keys are cramped but is reasonably pleasant to type on when you get used to it.

cubix-morph-philippines-6

The Cubix Morph is powered by an Intel Z8300 quad-core processor with Intel HD Graphics. There’s 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 64GB via microSD. So far, everything has been fairly smooth on the Morph, both on Android 5.1 Lollipop and Windows 10. We’re still installing updates to make sure everything is refreshed before concluding about the final performance.

Cherry Mobile Cubix Morph specifications:
10.1-inch IPS LCD @ 1280 x 800 pixels, 149ppi
1.44GHz Intel Z8300 quad-core processor
Intel HD Graphics
2GB RAM
32GB internal storage
Expandable via microSD, up to 64GB
2-megapixel rear camera
2-megapixel front camera
Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n
Bluetooth 4.0
6600mAh non-removable battery
Windows 10 / Android 5.1 Lollipop (Dual Boot)

For Php5,999, it’s definitely worth a look for those looking to have two operating systems within their grasp. You can avail of the tablet exclusively on Lazada here.
