Megaworld’s GERI builds Sta. Barbara Heights into township

Global-Estate Resorts, Inc. (GERI), a subsidiary of property giant Megaworld, is gearing up for another integrated urban township development in Western Visayas.

The 173-hectare Sta. Barbara Heights in the historic municipality of Sta. Barbara in Iloilo is set to become the 18th township of Megaworld, which will lend its expertise to GERI to develop the vast property into a mixed-use urban community.

“We are allocating P10-billion to develop Sta. Barbara Heights for 10 years. Part of which has already been spent for land development and construction of the village, which started four years ago. We have seen the potential of Sta. Barbara Heights of becoming a full-blown township because of its strategic location near the Iloilo International Airport. In the next five to 10 years, this masterplanned community will help spur economic activities in this town, and we will be able to provide transient passengers and tourists with facilities that are truly welcoming and world-class,” says Monica Salomon, president, Global-Estate Resorts, Inc.

Sta. Barbara Heights will have a direct access to the road leading to the Iloilo International Airport via the Iloilo International Avenue, a six-lane “spine” highway featuring rows of mixed-use and commercial buildings, retail shops, restaurants, boutique hotels and institutional facilities.

Half of the entire development is allocated for the Sta. Barbara Heights Residential Estates, a residential village with three phases offering around 1,000 lots. The village will feature a five-hectare Village Center with amenities that include a 260-meter swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, children’s park and picnic ground overlooking a lake beside the Iloilo Golf and Country Club, known to be Asia’s oldest golf course.

Sta. Barbara Heights is one of the five masterplanned communities that GERI is currently building across the country. Other developments include the 1,200-hectare Twin Lakes in Alfonso, Batangas; the 561-hectare Southwoods City in the boundaries of Cavite and Laguna; the 150-hectare Boracay Newcoast in Boracay Island; and the 62-hectare Alabang West in Las Pinas City.

“This year, we expect the company to grow by another 30-percent in terms of net income. The first order of business for the new management team is to streamline operations and tap opportunities for growth across all business segments,” reveals Salomon.

Healthway Medical introduces FIT, a test to detect food intolerance

Reactions to certain foods are quite common. However, some reactions go unnoticed until certain abnormal manifestations occur – internally (physiological) or externally (physical, i.e. on skin).Where food ALLERGY has almost an immediate reaction, food INTOLERANCE, on the other hand, does not immediately manifest. Sometimes, it takes as much several months or as short as days for symptoms to be obvious.

“Not knowing where you’re intolerant to could lead to chronic diseases such as abdominal bloating and fluid retention, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, migraine, and asthma,” said Carmie De Leon, vice president for sales and marketing of Healthway Medical. “This makes a Food Intolerance Test all the more important.”

Healthway Medical, the most trusted and preferred mall-based clinics in the Philippines, recommends every children and adult alike to undergo a Food Intolerance Test (FIT) or Food Print Test to identify which food groups are safe to eat.

FIT is the most advanced and comprehensive laboratory service that detects the presence of igG-food specific antibodies to a wide range of food people consume every day.

Healthway’s FIT is inclusive of a consultation with nutritionist to guide you through the FIT service and to explain the findings of the test.

“Not having your test now can be potentially dangerous since some people have high IgG levels but do not experience the symptoms,” De Leon said. “There are others whoeven feel better short after they eat food at which they are intolerant to, but continuing to take these food groups may re-grow the symptoms to much worse cases. Still, once symptoms occur, it is recommended to avoid all other members of that food group unless tested negatively.”

De Leon concluded, “Early detection of food intolerance will go a long way in ensuring one’s optimum health. If you want to achieve a quality life, make sure to add sleep, right food intake, exercise, and de-stressing as part of your daily routine. When you start living a healthy life, everything else will follow.”

3,000 Filipinos ran during the Energizer Night Race 2015

As part of its commitment to share positivenergy, Energizer encouraged the participants to keep on going and run as far and as fast as they can within the two-hour frame. Every 3-kilometer loop ran equates to P100, which was added as part of Bantay Bata 163’s medical treatment funds.

According to Vincent Lizo, Energizer Philippines’ business director, this never-before-seen loop run pushed the runners further in beating their personal records, with an added benefit of giving positive light to the most vulnerable children of Bantay Bata 163. “Ever since the Energizer Night Race took form, we saw it as more than being just a simple fun run. Above all, we used this platform to practice an important Energizer mantra, which is to share positivenergy,” Lizo said. “Ultimately, that is our primary goal.”

Meanwhile, Clarissa Ocampo—the Managing Director of Bantay Bata—stressed the importance of the organization’s partnership with Energizer Philippines, Inc. “We are looking forward to engage in a joint venture with partners who have the same mission with Bantay Bata,” Ocampo said. “That’s why we partnered with Energizer—we want to light up lives. What we really need for the organization is to have partners who will be committed to help our children in ways that will affect them on a longer term” added Ocampo.

MJ Tiquia, Energizer brand activation manager, added that the night race offered a different running experience to the participants, saying that “there’s no boundary to helping change people’s lives. “All it takes is to go beyond your limits,” Tiquia said. She also emphasized that while there’s no competition involved in the night race, it only required “the strength to go on to challenge yourself.”

The runners’ time were monitored through the radio frequency identification (RFID), which tracked every 3k loop a runner makes. For their added convenience, kilometer markers in the race route were also provided. Likewise, a battery meter lights up everytime a runner finishes a three-kilometer run. This battery meter compiled all the three kilometer runs the runner makes, until it reaches the one million target. To monitor the runners’ progress, an LED-display was positioned onstage and in the start and finish arcs.
After the race, the participants gathered to listen to the hits of Yeng Constantino, Up Dharma Down, and Itchyworms.

“The success of the Energizer Night Race 2015 will not be possible without the participants who shared positivenergy to the medical children of Bantay Bata,” said Claire Guevarra, senior brand manager of Energizer. “Every year, we are conducting our Energizer Night Race since 2010, and we are trying to come up with more unique, fun, and more engaging activities for the runners. However, it’s not just about benefiting those who will participate; it’s always about giving back to the community through more positive contributions.”

Guevarra concluded, “The unwavering support of the participants this year helped us reach the amount of donations we need to help support the medical children of Bantay Bata. While the organization heals the scars of the rescued children, we’ll help prepare their future through quality healthcare support. For us, that’s sharing positivenergy.”
