Their statement reads:

 Thank you so much for the overwhelming support for the ZTE Mobile Sales Promo.

We appreciate the efforts made by the thousands who went to our kiosks and concept store yesterday. We did not expect such an overflow of interested buyers, hence the shortage. We are very sorry for the inconvenience. Truly, we made a mistake in underestimating the response and we appeal for your understanding and compassion. As a responsible organization, we are finding ways to address the concerns of those who painstakingly queued to enjoy the offer yet went home disappointed.

As we are humbled by the reception the public has given our campaign, together with MSI-ECS, our distributor, we are committing ourselves to coming up with better initiatives, more aggressive promotions and up to date mobile devices that will benefit more Filipinos in the coming days.

Again, our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience and disappointment we have caused.

G.Skill RipjawsX F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM Review

When I decided to go with the AMD A10-7850K for my personal rig, I knew I need to pair it with a high-frequency RAM to get the most out of the processor and its iGPU. So I went ahead and bought an 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 2133Mhz RAM kit (F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM) which we will be reviewing in this post.

GSkill Ripjaws X Philippines

Design and Construction

Like most fancy memory modules out there, the Ripjaws X comes with a sick-looking heat spreader which, more than anything, gives the RAM sticks plus points for aesthetics and badassery.

Not a whole lot of the RAM’s black PCB can be seen on the RipjawsX as almost everything is sandwiched in between 10-fin heatsink. The one we have here is in blue, but other options (Red, Black and Yellow/Gold) are available to suit your rig’s color scheme.

Clearance

The RipjawsX measures 40mm tall which, depending on your current cooling solution, may present some issues with clearance. Based on experience though, the RAM were just short enough (by a hair) to sit perfect under the Noctua NH-L12 low-profile cooler as shown in the picture above.

The only problem is that I need to take out the CPU cooler every time I need to swap out memory modules. It’s actually more of an issue with the cooler than the memory module, and unless you often change RAM kits, we don’t think it’s going to be that much of a problem.

Stock speed and Overclocking

A quick look at the sticker attached to the memory module will tell you that these RAM sticks are rated to run at 2133Mhz with a timing of 9-11-10-28 at 1.65V. It’s not groundbreaking by any means, but this RAM kit has slightly better stock timings than other 2133Mhz modules in my shortlist.

GSkill Ripjaws X (web)

Using the ROG Crossblade Ranger, we were able to push the RipjawsX to 2400Mhz without adjusting any other settings besides the frequency. This, of course, resulted in to slightly slower timings (10-12-11-31) which are still within the acceptable range.

Your overclocking mileage may vary depending on your system setup and by toying around with various settings, but for the sake of this review we will only stick with 2400Mhz for the overclocked frequency.

Performance and Benchmark

If you guys read our review of the A10-7850K, you’ve probably noticed that we’ve used this memory kit (running at 2133Mhz) on all of the benchmark tests that we’ve conducted on the processor. So if you’re interested to see what kind of performance gains you can expect out of this RAM you can check out our review here.

Info
2133MHz timings on the left and 2400MHz timings on the right.

Apart from the APU-related benchmarks found on the link above, we’ve also ran additional RAM-specific tests on the Ripjaws X F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM with it running at 2133MHz and 2400MHz using SiSoft Sandra, AIDA64 Extreme and PerformanceTest 64-bit.

Test bench:

AMD A10-7850K 3.7GHz (Stock)
Integrated Radeon R7 Series GPU
ASUS RoG Crossblade Ranger Motherboard
8GB (2x 4GB) G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM dual-channel kit
256GB ADATA XPG SX900 Solid-State Drive
Antec HCP-1200 80Plus Gold Certified 1200W PSU

SiSoft Sandra (Memory Bandwidth & Cache and Memory Latency)

Performance Test 8.0 (Read Cached/Uncached, Write and Threaded)

Performance Test 8.0 – Latency

Latency

Performance Test 8.0 – Database Operation

Database Operation

AIDA64 Extreme (Memory Test)

Benchmark Analysis and Conclusion

The three synthetic benchmark tests we ran yielded contradicting results, particularly in the Latency segment. The score that we got on AIDA64 were near identical despite of the fact that the RAM was running on different frequencies and timings during the test.

On the other hand, the latency test scores on SiSoft Sandra and PerformanceTest tell a different story. The former claims that the stock timings of the RAM while running at 2133MHz will have less latency compared to when it’s overclocked.

Meanwhile, the PerformanceTest result shows that despite of slower timing when the RAM is overclocked to 2400MHz, the memory module performed better in its latency test compared to when it’s running on 2133MHz and stock timings.

RipjawsX Philippines

What is clear though is that the user will get a slightly better performance during Read/Write/Copy operations when it’s overclocked as suggested by the result we got from AIDA64’s memory test.

The same can be said for the result we got from the Memory Bandwidth test on SiSoft Sandra. When overclocked, the RAM yielded slightly better performance on both Integer and Float Memory Bandwidth tests.

Conclusion

Other than the possible clearance issue due to its 40mm-tall heat spreader, we didn’t have any other gripe about the G.Skill Ripjaws X memory modules. It’s got a well-built design, it offers decent performance out of the box, and one can easily bump up the speeds a bit should they feel the need to do so.

The G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM is available locally in some tech shops and online sellers and currently has a street price ranging from Php3,800 to Php4,500.

What we liked about it:

* Rigid heatsink design
* Various color options to match your rig’s scheme
* Offers good balance between frequency and timing

Chibog :Sizzling Hot in Dumaguete!

I was recently  in Dumaguete City towitness the Buglasan festival.   Coincidentally I was also invited by Malu and Lynette  drop  by at Chibog one of the newer fastfood centers that opened its d doors in the City of Gentle People.

I arrived in Dumaguete City just a few minutes past two in he afternoon  i was greeted by Marc at the Ceres Terminal.   From the bus terminsl we headed towards Santa Catalina street  to get a quick glimpse of chibog and some refreshments.

A few minutes later we’re headed to the streets to ctch the Buglasan  streetdancing competition.

The parade has already started when we arrived at the ciyy street.  We got to see snippets of performsnces from Dumaguete  Tanjay,  Bais, San Jose and Santa Catalina  not bad at all.

By nighttime we went back to chibog for dinner and some chitchat.
Chibog is barely new to the city.  It only opened last June 2014 and since then has continuoulsy served hot off the grill value for your money meals

I love the artsy orsnge colored high ceiling.   It gives you na impression of a relaxed and comfotable dining experience.  Upon checking the menu I noticed that everything comes at a very reasonable price.   Since this is going to be my first time to sample the dishes  I did ‘t have much any expectation.  For dinner I ordered baby baxk ribs.  My companion got a plate of sisig marc also got boneless lechon for us!

Surpruse surprise!   The back ribs is so tender and oozing with yummy flavors.  The meat is so soft  you can just easily remove it off its bone with a fork. It’s so heavenly I am reminded of a popular restaurant in Cebu  that also offers back ribs.  Amd at P170  with unli it’s the biggest hit in town!    Their lechon is kinda weird too.   Instead of thr liver sauce or soysauce  one has to dipped small chunks of lechon in sweet spicy bagoong to more kick.   Since i do not eat bagoong and spicy foods i opted not to dip it in the sauce.

But their lechon has its distinct characteristics .  Its fat is so tender it easily melts in your mouth.  And has a subtle flavor too.   Thats thats why the bagoong complements well wiht the lechon.

We capped our dinner with na authentic Budbod kabog from Tanjay served with rich hot chocolste on the side.

Budbod  kabog is millet cooked on coconut leaves best when eaten with chocolate.  I also learned that their super rich hot chocolate is sourced locally.   You can actuslly taste the distinct bitter taste of cacao and the rough texture of the beans.  Definitely a must try!

Other dishes I got to sample during my 3day2night stay in Dumaguete are their version of grilled liempo leche flan and halo halo. their version of halo halo is not too sweet with lots of milk on it.  The grilled liempo is very well marinted it was cooked tender and juicy.   The fats melts in your mouth too!

Chibog is definitely a big hit among the discriminting taste of Dumagueteños. Their affordable  and great tasting meals are their rcip to success.  Little by little Chibog is going to rule Dumaguete  and soon enough its nearby province of Negros Occidental!

Nokia Lumia 530 Dual SIM Review

The Nokia Lumia 530 is an entry-level Windows Phone device that rocks a 4-inch display, Snapdragon 200 quad-core CPU, dual-SIM connectivity, Windows Phone 8.1, and a price tag of just almost Php5K. With Android dominating the budget smartphone segment, is the Lumia 530 still worth considering? Read our full review to find out.

Design and Construction

The Nokia Lumia 530 is Microsoft’s budget Windows Phone device which was announced back in July and the successor to last year’s Lumia 520. One might expect the Lumia 530 to be a sleeker looking device but in fact it is rounder, chunkier, and a tad heavier than its predecessor like it has gained baby fats over the year.

On the front you will see the the 4-inch display, earpiece, and the microphone. The company dropped the capacitive buttons found on the Lumia 520 and opted for the on-screen navigational keys. On the right are the volume rocker and power/lock button.

Found on top is the headset jack while down at the bottom is the microUSB port. Flip it on its back and you’ll find the removable back cover, the 5-megapixel rear camera, and the speaker.

Although I prefer the edgier feel and look of the Lumia 520, this is not to say that the Lumia 530 is inferior. Quality-wise it still feels sturdy and well-made. It’s comfortable to grip and easy to put inside your pockets.

In addition, the hard plastic shell has a matte finish and comes in four different colors – green, orange, white, and dark grey. In essence, the Lumia 530 is pretty much a solid and nice-looking device.

Display and Multimedia

The Lumia 530 sports a 4-inch display with FWVGA resolution or equal to 245ppi which is an improvement compared to the Lumia 520’s WVGA resolution or 233ppi. However, what’s disappointing here is that it doesn’t have an IPS panel unlike its predecessor. The result is a display that suffers greatly from glare, not-so-vibrant colors, and poor viewing angles.

That being said, this puts the Lumia 530 in a disadvantage as a multimedia device. To make matters worse, the Lumia 530 cannot properly play videos with 720p resolution and above. The sound plays but video is very choppy so you’re limited to just viewing 480p files and below. On the bright side, the Lumia 530 has a very loud speaker which is good for playing MP3 files.

OS, UI, and Apps

Running the software side for the Lumia 530 is Windows Phone 8.1 OS. That means that it has features such as swipe-down Action Center, Word Flow, and changeable Start screen backgrounds. There’s also Cortana but its features are mostly optimized for the U.S. market.

A few apps are pre-installed on the Lumia 530 such as Nokia Camera, MS Office, and Skype. The Windows Phone Store is here to take care of your app needs like Instagram, Whatsapp, Spotify, and Asphalt Overdrive. It has improved in terms of the number of apps available but it is nowhere near what Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store can offer.

The Lumia 530 has 4GB of internal storage which is another downgrade compared to the Lumia 520’s 8GB. It has 2.11GB allocated for system files which means you are only left with 1.89GB as usable. The good news is it supports up to 128GB microSD cards and allows to install apps there.

Camera

The Lumia 530 comes with a 5 megapixel fixed-focus camera. That means it cannot adjust to take close-up shots. Colors are okay but you’re most likely to end up with a blurred shot with this camera. Take a look at a few samples below.

As for video recording, it can record video files, however, you’re only limited to 480p resolution at 30fps. It’s okay for quick YouTube uploads but not exactly for high-res viewing.

Performance and Benchmarks

Powering the Lumia 530 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core CPU clocked at 1.2GHz, Adreno 302 GPU, and 512MB of RAM. Windows Phone 8.1 OS is optimized to run well on a device with such entry-level specs so we didn’t encounter any significant lags, app crashes, or random reboots.

We tried a few games like Asphalt Overdrive, City Racing 3D, and Zombie Tsunami, so far all of them ran smoothly on the Lumia 530. As for benchmarks, it got a score of 11,477 on AnTuTu. Although it has nothing much to boast in terms of hardware specs, we’re very much satisfied with its performance.

Battery Life

Providing power for the Lumia 530 is a small 1,430mAh battery. If you’re mostly on Wi-Fi and a light user (no games), it is capable of lasting a whole day with a little more left before bedtime.

We ran our usual battery test which involves putting it on Airplane mode, playing a movie file on loop at 50% brightness and volume with headset plugged in, and the result is 6.7 hours worth of playback which is not really stellar.

Conclusion

The Lumia 530 is a good-performing entry-level Windows Phone device that features a solid build, hand-friendly form factor, and cute aesthetics. However, it feels like a downgrade in certain aspects if you compare it to the Lumia 520. This is unconventional for a so-called successor but can be justified if you look at the price. It is just priced at Php4,990 which is significantly more affordable than the Lumia 520 which entered the market at Php7,990.

To conclude, the Lumia 530 is not here to wow consumers with its specs but it’s here to give interested buyers a chance to get a very capable smartphone with a good build and Windows Phone 8.1 OS without breaking the bank. Yes, it is still worth considering in a market that is dominated by affordable Androids, however, its biggest challenge are other WP 8.1-powered smartphones that offer better specs for almost the same price. One of them is the Cherry Mobile Alpha Luxe.

Nokia Lumia 530 specs:
4-inch FWVGA TFT display, 245ppi
1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core CPU
Adreno 302 GPU
512MB RAM
4GB internal storage
up to 128GB via microSD
free 15GB via OneDrive
5 megapixel rear camera
Dual-SIM, Dual-Standby
HSPA+, 3G
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 4.0 w/ A2DP
FM Radio
GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS
1,430mAh battery
Windows Phone 8.1 OS
MS Office, Action Center, Word Flow, Cortana
119.7 x 62.3 x 11.7 mm
129 g

What we liked:
* Good build
* Small form factor
* Loud speaker
* Affordable price
* Good performance

What we didn’t like:
* Poor display
* Fixed focus camera
* Below average camera output
* No front camera
* No HD playback and recording
