Mazda Philippines Registers Highest Sales Quarter

Mazda Philippines registered its best sales month on record under Berjaya Auto Philippines Inc., and best sales quarter ever for Mazda in the Philippines.

Aside from the new monthly record, this achievement also sets a new best for Mazda vehicle sales in the Philippines as sales from January to September this year have already surpassed 2013’s full year total. Moreover, the sales figures from each of the months of May to September 2014 reveal that these are also the best consecutive five-month performance by far for the Mazda brand.

“Mazda’s growing sales numbers is a reflection of BAP’s commitment to the brand and its loyal customers,” says BAP president and CEO, Steven Tan. He adds, “Seeing how strong the demand is for our SKYACTIV technology- and KODO designed- vehicles, we are even more devoted to bring in the latest brand new Mazda units on the road so that more people can enjoy Mazda’s Zoom-Zoom spirit.”

Starting with the new Mazda6 executive sedan last year, followed closely by the CX5 AWD Sport and CX5 PRO crossovers, and recently the all new Mazda3 compact car — the response from the customers has exponentially grown the brand since BAP started its operations more than a year ago. The sales numbers for the most recent quarter – Q3 2014 – is the highest for a sales quarter in Mazda Philippines’s history. The Mazda2 sub-compact, first launched in 2010, and refreshed in 2012, continues to be an exceptionally strong performer as it registers its second highest ever-monthly sales record just this September, with only the 1.3L Hatchback and Sedan available on sale.

The current product line-up of Mazda Philippines includes the Mazda2 sub-compact sedan and hatchback, the recently launched all-new Mazda3 SKYACTIV compact sedan and hatchback, the Mazda6 executive sedan, the CX-5 compact SUV, the CX-9 seven-seater SUV, the MX-5 2-seater sports roadster and the BT-50 pickup truck. There are 15 Mazda sales and service dealerships located around Metro Manila: Mazda Greenhills along EDSA, Mazda Quezon Avenue and North EDSA in Quezon City, Mazda Pasig along C5, and Mazda Alabang; and in key provincial locations – Pampanga, Dagupan, Cabanatuan, Batangas, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Tarlac, Cavite, Iloilo and Davao.

Suzuki Celebrates 40 Years of Partnership with Wheeltek

Suzuki celebrates 40 years of partnership with one of the country’s biggest motorcycle distributors – Wheeltek Motor Sales Corporation. As Wheeltek turned the Trinoma Activity Center as the hub of their 4 decades of excellence in the Philippine motoring scene on September 27 to 28, Suzuki came in with its aesthetically impressive display highlighting the brand’s latest Fuel-injection technology and big bikes. The display carries Wheeltek’s push models of Suzuki’s small and big bikes – the Raider J 115 Fi, Shooter 15 Fi, Smash 115 and Skydrive as well as the Suzuki GSR 750 and V-Strom 650.

Suzuki also provided a lot of surprises to the booth visitors by giving out freebies to those who like or share their fan page. Doing this automatically qualified the fans to participate in Smash 115 Raffle Promo!

Fans also got a chance to take their photos with the lovely Suzuki Fi ladies and FHM’s 100 Sexiest’s Alex Moreno.

And as if those were not enough, they got a Suzuki Fi Cap upon sharing these photos on their Facebook walls!

Wheeltek’s exhibit area showcased their 40 years of history marking each decade with a milestone. Back in 1974, Dr. Reynaldo Odulio and Mrs. Rosario Teresita Odulio established their business of distributing motorcycles under the name of Peer Marketing in their home garage with only three motorcycle units. These motorcycles are all Suzuki ascertaining the fact that Suzuki is the first brand of choice that Wheeltek had during its foundation.

At the Supplier’s Night during the first day of their exhibit, Suzuki President Mr. Hiroshi Suzuki, Managing Director Ms. Catalina Calderon, General Manager for Sales and Marketing of Motorcycle Division Mr. Eiji Kobayashi and General Manager for Admin and Finance Mr. Norminio Mojica, handed over the Japanese giant’s token of appreciation to the Odulio Family. The memento is a round wheel-like token made of an ultra-clear glass topped with a translucent text “40th Anniversary”. The token symbolizes Suzuki and Wheeltek’s long partnership that have surpassed the test of time. The round shape signifies a Wheel which is the part that moves the motorcycle to where it is going and just like how Suzuki and Wheeltek’s partnership brought the two to where they are today.

Honda bags 6 awards at the first ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix

Honda dominated at the recently concluded New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) Grand Prix Awards 2014 among 18 participating car manufacturers. Honda received 5 awards in the Crash Worthiness Performance category and 1 award in the Safety Technology category for the Honda LanWatch technology. The All New City was recognized as the overall winner for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP).

The ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) is a new addition to the NCAP entities around the world, which targets to enhance safety standards, raise consumer awareness and thus encourage a market for safer vehicles in the Southeast Asia region. These awards mark yet another milestone for Honda; as it continuously puts effort to set a benchmark for vehicle safety.

Committed to provide excellent vehicle safety, Honda R&D centers in Japan are two of the world’s most advanced indoor crash safety research facilities – the world’s first indoor multi-directional crash-test safety facility and an Automotive Safety Research Facility.

The Honda indoor crash test safety facility enables Honda to conduct crash tests from various directions, at different speeds, and between vehicles of different sizes. In fact, all Honda models have been put through vigorous testings for frontal, side and rear crash at the facility. This multi-directional test capability is the key to better understand, design, and protect against the consequences of real-world collisions.

Besides the multi-directional crash tests, Honda was also the first automaker in the world to develop pedestrian crash test dummies. These dummies are designed to replicate the behavior of the human body in a collision to help with analyzing the effects accidents have on the human body and with identifying locations of damage to vehicles.

Both R&D centers are able to provide Honda with a deeper understanding of what happens in real-world collisions as the basis for developing new technologies that enhance safety. This is a strong reflection of Honda’s commitment in providing safety for everyone—that means crash protection not only for its own drivers and passengers, but also for the occupants of other vehicles, and injury mitigation for pedestrians.

Locally, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has always emphasized passenger safety as one of its key priorities in vehicle development. Evidently, its vehicles have always been infused with the latest vehicle safety systems and technology. While high-end safety systems such as Anti-lock Brake System with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (ABS with EBD) and the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) were features that were once reserved for high displacement models, HCPI has been including these features even in their subcompact models.

In 2012, HCPI offered their 1.5 City ENC model with these features together with Dual (driver and passenger) SRS airbags, ISOFIX international standard for fastening child seats, 60:40 split folding rear seats and seatbelt reminder for both driver and front passenger. This made the Honda City one of the pioneers to introduce a model (locally) that gets a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating for adult occupant protection, the highest safety rating possible.

Fast forward to 2014, HCPI partakes in realizing Honda’s dream of a collision-free mobile society where customers and everyone sharing the road, can safely and confidently enjoy the freedom of mobility. Dedicated to implement safety improvements through vehicle technologies, HCPI’s recent products are equipped with standard dual SRS airbags and abs with EBD (across vehicle line-up), higher end variants starting with the All New City come with new safety technologies and enhancements such as Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Multi-angle Rear View Camera Display, Emergency Stop Signal, Side Airbags and Side Curtain Airbags. As a result, all vehicles in Honda’s current line-up are 4-star ASEAN NCAP compliant while certain variants of the City, Jazz, and Civic with Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and seatbelt reminder are 5-star ASEAN NCAP compliant.
