Chromebleed helps protect your PC from Heartbleed

You’ve read about the dangers of the Heartbleed bug with what it could do and what it basically does to online accounts. Now, the new Chromebleed plugin aims to help notify you when you visit sites that are affected by Heartbleed.

Chromebleed

Based on one Filippo Valsorda’s tool, the Chromebleed extension alerts you when the page you’re viewing has been hit by the most dangerous bug yet. It shows a notification on the bottom right of the screen and when this happens, the wisest thing to do is head back and report the incident or request a patch to the website’s developers.

The file is light to download at 120kb and automatically installs to Google Chrome. After installing, there will be a small Heartbleed icon showing the status of the checker while it runs continuously on the background.

Amazon’s smartphone with four cameras for 3D holograms

It has been long-rumored that Amazon will be coming out with a new smartphone and one of its main features is the four front-facing cameras that produces hologram-like images without the use of 3D glasses.

According to sources, Amazon’s upcoming phone “would employ retina-tracking technology embedded in four front-facing cameras, or sensors, to make some images appear to be 3D, similar to a hologram.” In addition, this technology was also reported to sense movement when the screen is moving closer to a user’s face. Doing so makes the phone zoom into images automatically and manipulation of both text and messages depending on the positioning of the device is possible.

Based on the reports, it seems like Amazon’s upcoming smartphone wouldn’t cost that much since the company aims to profit from customers acquiring services from Amazon using their devices, and not make money out of the devices itself. This is backed up by another feature of the phone that can recognize photos you take with its camera. After that, the phone looks for a matching product on Amazon so you can begin ordering it.

As of now, little is known regarding its official name and even what OS it will be running. The phone is set to go on mass production starting June and should come out sometime in late September — just in time for Christmas shopping and yes, same time as iPhone 6‘s arrival.

QHD AMOLED screen, the future of displays?

1080p used to be the highest screen resolution there was for mobile phones, but a new kind of display panel now takes its place in terms of pixel count. The first ever QHD AMOLED display has arrived and it brings a 2560 x 1440 screen resolution along with it.

2k resolution

The credit doesn’t go to Samsung or LG as they are expected to come out with devices boasting 2K displays. Instead, Taiwan-based AU Optronics pioneers in developing  and distributing a 5.7-inch panel which holds the record for having the highest resolution. As mentioned earlier, the screen boasts 2560 x 1440 screen resolution accompanied by an impressive pixel density of 517ppi. The display is also thin at only 0.57mm.

This only backs up the reports and rumors of upcoming devices sporting 2K displays. Not only that, there’s also a big chance that it might be the standard for flagship phones in the future. The question is, do we really need over 2K resolution on 5-inch smartphones?
