Manila Water advocates safety at work

Photo shows the Manila Water Safe Systems of Work Handbook, a testament of Manila Water’s commitment which puts premium on safety.    The handbook aims to provide a structured approach in executing a particular task safely while serving as a ready reference on the basic guidelines to ensure safe operations.

Safety starts with me. This is the advocacy that East Zone concessionaire Manila Water is espousing in light of the need to keep its workplaces and project sites safe for its employees, customers, communities and service providers.

In this regard, Manila Water recently launched its maiden Safe Work Systems Handbook designed to equip its employees with the knowledge necessary to minimize the risks of being exposed to hazards at work.

Manila Water Operations Group Director Geodino Carpio said the company has decided to come up with the handbook to effectively communicate hazards in the workplace and ensure that knowledge on appropriate controls to eliminate or minimize the risks of being exposed to these risks is well-communicated to its stakeholders.

“Manila Water Safety Solutions has released the handbook to strengthen employees’ compliance to Safety Standards through the use of visual standards as well as achieve an incident and injury-free workplace,” Carpio said.

At the same time, he added the handbook will also serve as a tool for Manila Water employees as well as its contractors and service providers to observe safety precautions at all times.

Carpio’s statement was echoed by Manila Water Safety Solutions Head Liezel Lee who explained that the handbook is compliant with the Philippine Occupational Safety and Health Standards as well as the Fire Code. Lee also said that plans are afoot for Manila Water to handover the handbook to officials of the Department of Labor and Employment and the Occupational Safety and Health Center.

Manila Water Safe Systems of Work Handbook is an informative tool and guide for employees to ensure that tasks are carried out in the workplace putting premium on safety. The handbook was drafted based on the following safety pillars: Assessing the Task, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, Defining Control Measure, and Identification of Applicable Work Permit.

Overnight in Lingayen!

Lingayen was never part of my travel plans for this year. But at the very last minute, I decided to visit Lingayen since it is just around 30 minutes away from Dagupan.

Upon arrival, Mica and I checked in at The President’s Hotel. We stayed at the hotel for night. It was conveniently located very near the provincial capitol. Just a short walk away.

From the hotel, we took a leisurely walk going to the capitol and checked out its interior. I was floored at its beauty and grandeur. All the while I thought the provincial capitol of my home province Negros Occidental was the best looking government building already. But I was wrong. Pangasinan’s seat of Provincial Government is the best one for me. I love the every details of the building.

From the capitol we then went to the Sison Auditorium for the Salvador Bernal exhibit mounted by the Culturl Center of the Philippines. Salvador Bernal or Badong to his friends is a national artist for theater and production design. Born in Dagupan, he lived his life creating memorable stage designs that has made a lasting impact on its audiences.

During the exhibit, various costumes he designed were displayed as well as the scale model of his stage designs. It was so fabulous. He is truly a legend in his field. Can you still rmember the classic film Oro Plata Mata? Yeah, he was the production designer of that film.

And the Sison Auditorium is a masterpiece in itself. It used to be an indoor basketball court, but just a few years recently the government decided to reinvent the whole structure to make it more useful. Thus they converted it into an auditorium. An hall that can fit over a thousand crowd, with really good acoustic for the sound and the wood parquet flooring that I truly love which is perfect for dancing. And the crowning jewel of the auditorium? A large chandelier made of Swarovski crystals hanging from the ceiling. Oh God. I want to take home the chandelier! It is just so pretty!

From the auditorium e took a walk going to the beach. This is one of my favorite part. Large open space with the sea breeze blowing your hair waiting for the sun to set. it’s priceless. I was just watching the locals walk along the beach, enjoying the moment, while some jog along the cemented path. For the hungry souls there were a number of food stalls just a stone’s throw away from the beach.

By sundown, we had dinner. As usual, I had bangus. But this time I ordered the grilled bangus stuffed with tomatoes and onions on its belly. Sarap!

By night time, we went to Antonino Café for caffeine fix. The coffee shop is located very near the Lingayen Cathedral. Surprisingly, their coffee is good! Later I learned from the owner they he used to work in a popular coffee shop in Dagupan before he put up his own business. They really made sure that their coffee beans are up excellent quality.

This is just the first day of my trip to Lingayen. Watch out for the second part of this series where I got to explore the secrets of the town.

FaceCypt is an iOS data encryption app that works a bit similar to Android’s Face Unlock, but differs in terms of usage. Basically, FaceCrypt locks documents and other contents in a vault that can be unlocked through various ways including taking a self-portrait. The difference between the two is that you control what you want to be private by keeping them all inside FaceCrypt, while Face Unlock is only a way to unlock a locked screen.

In addition to taking selfies, FaceCrypt can also be unlocked using patterns and passwords to encrypt files for bank accounts, credit cards, and other important data or media.

FaceCrypt CEO tells Fox Business, “Basically, you take a selfie, as it’s called, and it’s a biometric and it will recognize you … That’s the key method to getting to the application.”

Everything in the vault is protected with a secure 256-bit blowfish encryption which has been tested and proven over time.

When the first batch of facial recognition software came out, it could be easily tricked by holding up a photo of the owner against its camera for it to unlock. Now, FaceCrypt’s ‘liveness detection’ feature looks for the blinking of eyes to ensure that the face isn’t just an image and is indeed real.

FaceCrypt is now available over at the App Store in three versions – a free app with limited storage, a basic app at $4.99, and a plus app worth $3.99. The app is compatible with iPhones and iPads.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0, 8.0 & 10.1 now official

Samsung has unveiled its latest line of slates under the Galaxy Tab 4 series namely the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0, Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 and the biggest of them all, the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1.

As far as their specs sheets are concerned, these three tablets shares a lot in common with it each other. All of these slates are runs on 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM and are equipped with a 3.15MP camera at back which is paired with 1.3MP on the front.

With the exception of the 3G/Wi-Fi variant of the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0, all of Samsung’s new tablets are LTE-enabled and comes with a 16GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 64GB via Micro-SD card (Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 3G/Wi-Fi only supports up to 32GB).

Despite of having different screen sizes, all of these tablets share a 1280×800 screen resolution which doesn’t really bode well for the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 as it only equates to a rather poor pixel density of 149ppi.

Disclaimer: Some details are based on GSMArena’s specs sheet.

Samsung is planning to sell their new Galaxy Tab 4 slates during the second quarter of the year. However, the company didn’t mention the retail price of their new tablets.
