Google announces scent-sational search tool, Nose

The good thing about Google is that they’ve never been guilty resting on their laurels. The company is constantly looking for ways to improve their search capabilities and their latest breakthrough, Google Nose, is set to change the way we search the web forever.

Google has spent countless hours developing a radical way of searching the web through smell. The result is an old-factory knowledge search tool that utilizes a state-of-the-art Mobile Aroma Indexing technology which scans Google’s 15-million scent-a-byte database of smell of virtually anything under the sun.

The information, or I should say scent, is then transmitted to the user’s device and with the help of fusion of photons and infrasound waves, users are now able to smell whatever they’ve searched for. Google has also integrated Nose on their current search tool, enabling users to not only find out information about their search, but also smell it first-hand. Talk about in-depth search, eh?

Google Nose is still on Beta stage, but as early as now, we can definitely say that the possibilities are endless for this service. We hope that in the future, users can also take part on this scent-sational journey by having the ability to upload scent on the web. The lovely breath in the morning, the fragrance of the gas from a man who ate eggs and drank Pop cola, the list just goes on.

Happy April Fools day everyone!

PAL to offer in-flight calling and WiFi internet

Philippine Airlines has announced that they will soon start offering in-flight calling and WiFi internet connection to its passengers for select Airbuses.

PAL

These in-flight services are made possible through PAL’s partnership with OnAir, a Geneva-based in-flight telecoms provider. “By mid-year”, passengers of PAL’s Airbus A330-343s and Boeing 777-300ERs will soon be able to make calls and surf the internet during flights.

“As the country’s leading airline, we must enable our passengers to stay in touch during flights. Connectivity is an absolute requirement for today’s travellers,” said Ramon S. Ang, PAL President and Chief Operating Officer.

Last year, Cebu Pacific also broke the news about in-flight WiFi but implementation was scheduled for 3rd quarter of 2013. Looks like PAL will be ahead of them

YugaTech expands coverage to Showbiz, Politics, Sports

YugaTech has been covering most of the local and global tech scene for the past 8 years and we believe it is time to expand our news to other categories like sports, showbiz, entertainment, politics and everything else that trends on Twitter.

Since last year, we’ve already beefed up our news and reviews team. The editorial team is now at 4, including 2 full time contributors and one part-time correspondent.

We are currently looking to expand this team to about 10 contributors in the next 6 months. The new bloggers will be a diverse mix of folks who are familiar with the showbiz and entertainment scene, a former sports journalist, a political correspondent in Malacanang and a social media expert that will monitor Twitter trending topics all day.

YugaTech has recently received a significant amount of investment from a regional group (we can’t divulge any more details on this for now), thus the plans for rapid expansion.

The site will undergo a revamp and we will also be announcing our first editor-in-chief, who is a veteran journalist and former Palanca awardee.

Expect more news and updates in the coming weeks.
