Maridel’s Cafe: Iloilo’s Sweet Surprise

I have been dreaming of one day, giving Maridel’s in Plazuela de Iloilo a visit. Last October 31, I had a plan of going to this new dessert shop in Iloilo but my attempt was a fail since the store was closed that day for a private function.

Yoshinoya’s new super bowls!

Yes, the Yoshinoya fastfood chain is still alive and kicking…in Manila, that is. Recently, we trooped to their Robinsons Galleria branch for a preview of their great-tasting new dishes. Here is one place to satiate your hunger with just one bowl… make it super bowl! :)

Yoshinoya Tokyo Beef Bowl

The Tokyo Beef Bowl stakes Yoshinoya’s claim of being the king of the beef bowls. This was everybody’s favorite because of the tender, flavorful thin slices of beef which was further enhanced by ample slices of onion and capsicum.

For the health conscious, Yoshinoya’s Veggie Beef has delectable tender slices of beef simmered in a special broth of authentic Japanese herbs and spices. It comes with a medley of fresh-cut vegetables on top of steaming white rice.

Yoshinoya Shrimp Tempura Bowl

Perfect for Lent when fish and seafood are the norm, the Shrimp Tempura is lightly battered with a perfectly crispy golden brown texture and made even more tasty when glazed in the house’s special tendon sauce.

We loved both their Pork and Chicken Tempura because of the flavorful meat chunks that’s lightly breaded and fried to perfection. I couldn’t have enough of the breaded sweet potato and eggplant that came with the tempura meals.

One of the star signature dishes introduced was Yoshi Chicken which is definitely more than ordinary. It comes in either leg or thigh part and is double coated with a special batter that comes out ultra-crunchy after deep frying. The chicken is also smothered with Yoshinoya’s special sauce, adding pizzazz to the already delectable dish. And once you sink your teeth into the juicy meat, an explosion of flavors assaults your mouth, delighting your taste buds with its interesting combination of authentic Japanese spices. Without a doubt, chicken lovers will absolutely love this dish!

Another variation is the Tokyo Chicken which is grilled chicken fillet soaked in Yoshinoya’s special ginger-based marinade and generously draped with their special Japanese sauce. An ample serving of mixed vegetables and white rice completes the meal.

Pork Tonkatsu

If crunchy, deep-fried and tender meat is your thing, then opt for Yoshinoya’s Pork Tonkatsu. One of the more popular Japanese dishes, the Pork Tonkatsu is topped with a special tonkatsu sauce and served together with a slew of shredded cabbage siding on top of fragrant white rice.

We enjoyed our Yoshinoya experience and couldn’t wait to go back with the family. Kain na! :)
