eRadio featured artist Inch Chua

You might know her from the popular upbeat alternative rock act Allura. Frontwoman Inch Chua steps out on her own to share a different beat.
Inspired by singer-songwriters such as Fiona Apple, Roisin Murphy, Shiina Ringo and electronic acts like Bjork, The Aphex Twin, The Postal Service.

Inch’s solo project is a clear departure from the boisterous rock singer she is known for. The material is a schizophrenic potpourri of introspective acoustic tunes and chirpy electronica. What remain unmistakable are the pint-sized singer!s trademark powerhouse vocals.

So expect her to play some arpeggios on her acoustic guitar before hopping onto laying down some looped instrumentations to create live electronic music. Not saying it!s a pure one-woman show, Inch invites the listeners to trigger off samples and be part of the creative process, incorporating audience participation into
her set.

Asian Food Museum by Makansutra now open at Manila Ocean Park

Mostly, I like the Manila Ocean Park because it is one of the few places in Manila where you can enjoy the city’s natural beauty without spending much. Ever since Baywalk closed, this is now the place to gaze at the beautiful sunset and watching the panoramic expanse of the Manila Bay while sipping a drink and enjoying the time with your family.

The best things in life are (almost) free!

It is good that MOP doesn’t charge an entrance fee just for entering their complex. After offering the mermaid show, the people behind the Makansutra Asian Food Village unveiled yesterday the Asian Food Museum for a peek at Asian food history, culinary cultures and traditions.

Asian Food Museum

Asian Food Museum

The place is a delight if you’re a history buff or simply a foodie who would like to know the elements of street food culture that is prevalent in Asia. Explore behind-the-scenes stories of the teh tarik stall, the peephole theater box, the five-footed food cart and unravel the mystique behind the Chinese tea ceremony.

Likewise, the walls are filled with large pictures of food that graces Asian tables … yes, even the exotic ones. One part even shows how to make a lumpia (spring roll) wrapper.

The fun part are the interactive games which adults and kids alike can try out for their own amusement.

There’s a Cooking Mama electronic game where the user can cook a given dish by pressing his fingers on the screen, just like you would with your Nintendo DS gaming console.

In the Chopstick Challenge, two people compete in putting little balls with a chopstick unto a bowl. Whoever finishes first, wins!

In the Shoulder Cart Challenge, you try the balance the two-sided cart on your shoulders as if you were a noodle or a taho vendor.

Fun, fun, fun!

San Carlos City Pintaflores Festival 2009 Schedule

The City of San Carlos in Negros Occidental is now in full preparation as the annual Pintaflores Festival 2009 goes high gear this coming November. Pintaflores is an annual fiesta celebration in San Carlos City in Northern Negros Occidental in honor of the City’s Patron Saint, San Carlos Borromeo.

Pintaflores Festival 2009

Pintaflores has always been in my wish list but due some other priorities, plans to visit San Carlos on its fiesta day has always been sidelined. But early this year, I had resolved to finally go to San Carlos, by hook or by crook.

As early as April, I have already bought my plane ticket to finally see the Pintaflores dancers perform on their home turf.

Pintaflores 2009

I have actually seen them peform several times, but sad to say, in other venues. Most notably, in Cebu Sinulog, where they never fail to amaze the crowds with their elaborate costumes. I have also seen them perform at the Aliwan Fiesta 2008 in Manila, Western Visayas Tourism Assembly 2008 which was hosted in Bacolod, and more recently during the Panaad sa Negros Festival of Festivals showdown.

Below is a draft schedule of the Pintaflores Festival 2009 sent by the Tourism office of San Carlos City. Updates will be posted once official schedule is already released.

Malacañang to Chavit: behave

Gloria Arroyo’s deputy national security adviser beat his common-law wife and her boyfriend and all she could say is “Behave.

From ABS-CBN Online

The Office of the President on Friday advised deputy National Security Adviser Luis Singson to “behave” and submit himself to due process after his common-law wife, Rachel ‘Che’ Tiongson, disclosed on Thursday the physical abuse she suffered at the hands of Singson.

Click here http://abs-cbnnews.com/nation/09/03/09/chavits-wife-reveals-physical-abuse for photos of Che Tiongson, Singson’s common law wife.

“Our advise to Singson is to behave accordingly as an upright citizen and submit himself to due process of the law,” said Press Secretary Cerge Remonde.

Remonde said he was not aware if President Arroyo’s deputy national security adviser used government resources to spy on Tiongson.

Singson is considered one of the most influential politicians in the country. His testimony in the impeachment trial of President Joseph Estrada in 2000 led to the fall of the Estrada administration and the rise to power of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in January 2001.

Singson virtually admitted on Wednesday over dzMM that he beat up his wife last month after discovering she had an affair, and added she should be thankful he didn’t kill her.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN’s Ces Oreña Drilon, Tiongson showed pictures of her badly-bruised face and arms allegedly caused by the beatings she suffered at the hands of Singson last August 22 after he found her with her boyfriend in her apartment.

She said Singson beat her up and even lashed her using the whip he uses to discipline his pet tiger.

Singson and his bodyguards also allegedly undressed Tiongson’s boyfriend, took pictures of his penis, beat him up, and tortured him.

A Quezon City trial court has granted Tiongson’s request for a protection order against Singson, which means he should not go near his wife.

Remonde said Malacañang’s actions on Singson will “depend on the outcome of the case.”

On Friday, in an interview over Umagang Kay Ganda (UKG), Singson said he never admitted that he beat up his wife, although he said she did get hurt.

Singson reiterated his earlier statement that Tiongson, the mother of his five children, should be thankful she’s alive.

Singson also told UKG he had evidence to prove that he and Tiongson were married and denied Tiongson’s claim they are already separated. In an interview with ABS-CBN, Singson showed copies of Tiongson’s letters to him that had endearments such as “Hi love” or “miss you.”

He said Tiongson’s requests for money amounted to almost P1 million.

Singson names Tiongson’s boyfriends

Singson also identified Tiongson’s lover, whom he only knew by his first name “Richard.”

“His wife has a blog. She even gave warnings that her husband was not a bachelor and that they have three kids. Sweet talker, he looks like a gigolo,” he said.

He said that aside from Tiongson, Richard has several girlfriends who are also married. “I am planning to talk to his girlfriends who are married. I will talk to the husbands and reveal what he is doing. You think he’s your friend but he’s stabbing you in the back,” he said.

Singson also revealed that Tiongson had a relationship with actor Cogie Domingo before she had an affair with Richard. He said Domingo had just returned to the Philippines after staying in the US.

He said that after getting caught, Tiongson even sent him a text message asking for his forgiveness. “Nagpapasalamat pa rin ako sa iyo at binigyan mo pa rin kami ng pagkakataong mabuhay lalo na sa akin na pangalawa na ito. And again, I’ll just let time heal,” he said, quoting the text message.

Singson said he has already received a subpoena after Tiongson sued him for violating Republic Act 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004. The two are scheduled to appear before a local court on September 8.

Still, he said he is already severing his ties with Tiongson. “Again, good luck. Wala na akong pakialam sa iyo,” he said.

A psychologist from the Women’s Crisis Center, meanwhile, said Tiongson should steel herself for more criticism from Singson.

“She will have a harder time because she will be challenging how society thinks. At the same time, she will also have to endure harsh words from Singson,” psychologist Anamabel Garcia said.

In her interview with ABS-CBN, Tiongson revealed that Singson’s treatment of her even before the beating made her look down on herself. “I really felt I wasn’t a wife anymore. Like I was just a servant. If he gave me money, he would ask for receipts so he would know where the money went. I used to be the wife and then he was just discarding me,” he said.

Family law expert Katrina Legarda, meanwhile, said Tiongson has a strong case against Singson if she will use Republic Act 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004. She said Tiongson has to choose whether to file a complaint of physical injury, attempted homicide or attempted murder. If found guilty, Singson could face up to 20 years in jail for attempted homicide or attempted murder.

Legarda also said Singson cannot use Article 247 of the Revised Penal Code to defend himself from assault charges.

According to Article 247, “any legally married person who having suprised his spouse in the act of committing sexual intercourse with another person, shall kill any of them or shall inflict upon them any serious physical injury, shall be exempt from punishment.”

Legarda said the exemption only covers those who are legally married.

Tiongson’s lover is former ABS-CBN employee

In her affidavit, Tiongson identified her lover as Richard Syquia Cartel. An ABS-CBN employee, however, said the man’s real name is Richard Catral.

Catral worked as a marketing officer of ABS-CBN Foundation for five years before resigning last June to go to the US.

Paul Vincent Mercado, Catral’s friend and former superior in ABS-CBN, said many people are attracted to Richard because of his looks and kind demeanor.

“Whenever he sees old people lining up at the audience entrance, he would help them and would find a way to get them inside. If they’re hungry or thirsty, he would even buy them food,” Mercado, head of ABS-CBN Foundation Creatives and Marketing, said.

He refused to comment on Catral’s personal life but admitted that he is slightly worried for his friend.

“I think he’s alive. Nagpapalamig lang yun,” he said.

Get Ready for the Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool 2009

nescafe mug

Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool is around since 2005, with Hilera as its first winner, followed by Effinboiche (2006), Lazy Susan (2007) and Letter Day Story (2008). For the last four years, they have given a chance to unsigned Filipino bands (three to five members, aged 16-20 years old) to become popular. And now on its fifth year, are you ready to be the Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool 2009 winner?

I have prepared some tips below if ever you want to join this year’s contest.

You might not be ready yet to become the winner because you’re probably too shy perform like this white lady singing in the video. Do not be shy, do your act!

Do not belittle yourself and get your self-esteem up. By just joining Nescafe Soundskool, you’re like a winner already because you know you got the guts. The question is, do you have the talent like them (see video below)?

Reveal yourselves! Do not be such a timid ninja boy band like these guys in the video.

  • Printed copy of the photo of the band in 4R size

Send all the completed requirements on or before September 6 to:

If you want to be one of the 65 bands that will be selected (20 from GMA, 15 from Luzon, 15 from Visayas and 15 from Mindanao), stand out from the rest by recording a cover that has a different musical arrangement, and record your best original song. Your best original song is something that is a “feel good” type of music. If you are planning to do a live recording for the two songs, then you should have a lot of practice before the actual live-recording session.

You will get notified if you’re one of the selected bands by September 25, 2009. If you are one of the chosen few, prepare yourself for the Regional Eliminations where you will perform live the songs you have recorded. And since you’ll be performing live, it is important that you have the energy on-stage and as well as to create rapport with your audience.

Thirteen bands with the highest scores will be selected (4 from GMA, 3 from Luzon, 3 from Visayas and 3 from Mindanao) during the Regional Eliminations and all of them will get PhP 25,000 (per band) plus a workshop in Boracay and Metro Manila before the Grand Finals will take place.

In case you’re not the next Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool winner, do not fret. At least you have something to spend so that you can at least record an EP.
