Eraserheads Reunion Concert: What we could have seen

Sofimi shared a Multiply blog post on what we could have seen on the 2nd and 3rd sets of the Eraserheads Reunion Concert. As what I have mentioned in my blog post: Eraserheads Reunion Concert: 08.30.2008, the songs for the second set will be:

1. Maskara
2. Poorman’s Grave
3. Torpedo
4. Trip to Jerusalem
5. Back to Me
6. Maselang Bahaghari
7. Maling Akala
8. Tikman
9. Spolarium
10. Magasin

Here are some production notes as posted in the Multiply blog link above:

When Magasin was to be played, the screen behind them would have montages of various news and magazine clippings of them. It would flash alternately with shots of the band and audience until the song reached the coda where Ely sings “…ay centerfold ka naaaa…woo hoo-hoo, haaa-haaa” part of the song. Then there would be fire works and a fountain of sparks, going on til the last note of the song. Then the hydraulic stage would be lowered and the band would make a “fake ending”.

The lights would then go out.

My sister said the band would wait til the crowd chanted “more”. “It would take two beers’ worth of chanting “more” she said. Then in the darkness, a very dramatic keyboard solo would be heard, and it would be the opening chords of Para Sa Masa.

The hydraulic stage would rise again and there they would be.

Here are the songs for the final set:

1. Para sa Masa
2. Overdrive
3. Pare Ko
4. Minsan
5. Ang Huling El Bimbo

And some production notes for Ang Huling El Bimbo:

Again, after the last refrain, at the coda (la la la laaa…) the grand fireworks display would go off, fountains of light surrounding the stage. The next la-la-la parts would see fireworks from behind the general admissions section, and as the song ended there would be a burst of confetti all over the audience.

Then the hydraulic stage would be lowered for the final exit.

We could have seen this. Whoever conceptualized this, I salute you. ) We may not have seen this, but just thinking about this already sends shivers to my spine. D

Quedancor swine program another fertilizer scam

Following is the first of a three-part series on Quedancor written by Vera Files.

by Diosa Labiste, Luz Rimban, and Yvonne Chua

ILOILO CITY— Aura Drew Escanlar was all set to take the nursing board examinations that December of 2004 when she decided instead to put up a piggery.

What changed her mind was an offer from the Quedan and Rural Credit Guarantee Corp. (Quedancor). Called “the poor man’s financing institution,” the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) credit guarantee arm was giving out loans in the form of piglets and feeds, with a buy-back scheme that assured borrowers some income.

Escanlar then used her parents’ savings to build pigpens and buy piglets, and signed up for the Quedancor Swine Program (QSP). Less than a year later, Escanlar lost almost everything. The income from the buy-back scheme was always delayed, and the feeds came late or were not delivered at all. After 50 of her piglets died, Escanlar stormed the Quedancor regional office here. “You have turned my farm into a graveyard,” she told Quedancor employees.

Escanlar was among the angry borrowers who called up or descended on the Quedancor regional office, their names listed in logbook entries from October to December 2005, many of them financially ruined by the QSP.

The QSP was a dismal failure, said a Quedancor official, because “we lost control of the program.” This also meant losing control over the P3 billion pesos that Quedancor poured into it from 2003 to 2007. The biggest chunk of the money went to Region 6 (Western Visayas), which got more than half of all QSP funds in the first three years of the program alone.
