As Filipinos celebrate the National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) month, Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago authored the Senate Bill No. 2839, otherwise known as the Free ICT College Education Act, to provide free ICT courses to all deserving graduates of public high schools.

If enacted, the proposed law will require all state colleges and universities to develop two-year ICT courses. These ICT courses will be free to all eligible students who graduated from public high schools who want to pursue a career in the ICT field.

According to the Senator, by mandating all state colleges and universities to have a two-year ICT courses, qualified students will have more options to choose from in terms of where they want to take up ICT-related courses.

The senator also believes that all eligible students should be entitled to join the program. Under the SB 2839, school authorities will be sanctioned for refusing to admit qualified students for the free ICT college education.
