Ford shows off all-new Mustang GT350R, GT supercar, and F-150 Raptor

The 2015 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) just kicked off and already Ford drops its latest models to wow everyone. Among these are the all new Mustang GT350R, GT supercar, and the F-150 Raptor. Spot these sexy beasts after the break.

Based on the original 1965 Shelby GT350 that started the legendary muscle car from Ford, the limited-production Shelby GT350R is now lighter and is ready to take on both the road and the racetrack.

Removing rear seats, trunk floorboard and exhaust resonators for weight savings, the new GT350R is more than 130 pounds lighter than the original Track Pack model. With lightweight carbon fiber wheels, updates to the front splitter and an all-new carbon fiber rear wing, this pony is optimized for aerodynamics from the road to the racetrack.

The GT supercar, on the other hand, boasts a whopping 600+ horesepower coupled with the company’s EcoBoost engine. It will be available in select global markets this year with production beginning late next year.

One of more than 12 new Ford Performance vehicles coming globally by 2020, the ultra-high-performance supercar is Ford’s most extreme offering yet, featuring rear-wheel drive, a mid-mounted engine and a sleek, aerodynamic, two-door coupe body shell.

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor

Ford’s newest off-road vehicle, the F-150 Raptor, also made an appearance and it’s touted to be tougher and smarter. The body is made of military-grade aluminum-alloy and a high-strength steel frame makes sure the body is intact and can take on extreme conditions.

Powered by Ford’s new, second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine—another Raptor exclusive in the F-150 lineup—and an all-new Terrain Management System that optimizes your ride according to terrain and driving conditions, the all-new F-150 Raptor takes performance to the next level.

YugaTech Presents: Galloping with the Ford Mustang

Lazada Philippines

We got the chance to take the 5-liter Ford Mustang V8 GT Premium out for a spin and to be honest, we enjoyed every bit of it. Here’s our experience with one of the most popular and iconic muscle car in history.

Jpeg

Watch this video of the Mustang running in the wild.

Our Mustang came in a Gotta Have It Green variant which easily turns heads on the road. The front hood is wide while its fastback design gives it its signature muscle look. At the rear we have the camera for backing up as well as segmented brake lights illuminated by LEDs. The model we got was the Performance Package which sports Over-The-Top stripes.

FordMustang_7

Also exclusive to this model is the included Brembo Brake Package that includes 14-inch vented front rotors and 4-piston calipers to accompany its 19-inch aluminium wheels. It’s got a protruded front that flaunts a honeycombed grille.

FordMustang_6

Underneath the hood is the heart that runs the show. Its 5-liter Ti-VCT V8 engine outputs 420 horsepower with 529Nm of torque. It proudly roars to life when you turn on the engine. In addition, the rear wheels are powered by a 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.

FordMustang_5

Its elegant interior boasts leather-trimmed Recaro seats and an aluminium-brushed dashboard. It sports a Shaker audio system with 6 speakers complete with the company’s Ford Sync for calling and reading messages hands-free. The interior is detailed and functional down to the steering wheel where controls for the instrumentations and music playback are found.

FordMustang_4

One note-worthy feature of the Mustang’s software is Track Apps that basically documents your own personal records in terms of acceleration and braking. To help in navigation, it’s got a built-in GPS system accessible via its 4.2-inch touchscreen display.  This two-door mustang is categorized as a 2+2 seater but the seats at the back are a bit cramped and not as spacious as the ones up front.

FordMustang_11

The Ford Mustang is one sexy beast whether you’re stuck in traffic or speeding down the highway. People tend to notice it without us even trying. Its raw power, when put to use, doesn’t disappoint one bit. But the only problem we had was that we often ran out of roads when we step down the gas pedal. On highways, however, we were able to make this horse run free (for a little bit, at least).

FordMustang_10

It’s no surprise that this muscle car chugs gas as we were only able to squeeze out a little less that 5km/l during our time with it.

FordMustang_2

If you’re looking for a muscle car that cruises in style and is always ready to pump out power, you’ll never go wrong with the Ford Mustang. Its 50 years of continuous production made it go through numerous refinements only to offer its drivers the best of its class. It retails locally for Php2.999,000.

The Making of the 2015 Ford Mustang

We visited one of the design centers of Ford’s R&D facilities in Detroit during our last day of the NAIAS this week and they showed us the process in conceptualizing and creating the new 2015 Ford Mustang.

We meet with key executives, design and creative heads as well as the master sculptor that shared details of the design flow and how to came up with the new look of the Mustang.

The entire team started off with Ideation. This is the stage where every designer can submit concepts of what the new Mustang would look like. They are all sketches and they had dozens of it.

The process was like running the “Next Top Chef” or like a “America’s Got Talent” but with design sketches. Executives then decide which of the sketches would make the cut and they shave the entries down to 3 themes.

The final 3 themes are then refined by the team and revisions are introduced to make them closest to what the new Mustang should be.

Each of the 3 final themes are then molded or sculptured by a Master Craftsman into a real-sized model.

The models give the team a better understanding of the size and scale of the car. Additional revisions are made or added based on the model. Of the three, one will be finally selected to become the new 2015 Mustang.

To give them a better perspective, they add more realistic materials to make it look like the real thing, take it outdoors under the sunlight to see how the curves and corners reflect the sunlight.

After this model is finally approved, they’d create the real one and test it out.

While this is being done, another team would be in-charge to design the interior of the Mustang.

A lot of attention is given to each detail of the interior — the analog meters, dials, stitches of the leather, even the positioning of the cup holders.

Another designed is assigned to pick the colors of the car. They started off with several dozen ones and end up with the final 10.

Additional tests are done outdoors including test drives, lighting, reflections and many more. More revisions are introduced based on the results of the tests and feedback from the executive team.

Once everything is signed off, the Mustang goes into the production line.

That’s how the 2015 Ford Mustang is created. And while we’re all waiting for the release of the car, the design team is already busy creating the 2017 model.
