Clothing line company crowdfunds anti-rape garment

A clothing line company in the U.S. called AR Wear turns to crowdfunding to help develop a kind of clothing that can protect women from sexual assault.

According to AR Wear, they developed this kind of product “so that women and girls could have more power to control the outcome of a sexual assault.” The goal is to provide its wearer additional protection to resist and discourage an attacker.

With that in mind, the garment should be able to resist pulling, tearing and cutting while at the same time is comfortable enough to be worn and used during normal activities. What the company came up with is a type of clothing that comes with a protective skeletal structure, partnered with cut reistant straps, webbings, and unique locking parts.

Once worn, the garment cannot be simply pulled down from the waist, or lifted or shifted from the thighs.

Although the technology is promising, the garment raised a lot of questions about its effectiveness in deterring a sexual predator. In India, engineering students developed an anti-rape underwear that sends electric shocks to an attacker.

As of the moment, AR Wear is eyeing a $50,000 goal on Indiegogo. At the time of writing, almost $3,000 have been pledged with 22 days to go.
