The government will soon acquire Passive Millimeter Wave Scanners that can scan through clothing and even skin. These scanners can detect metallic and non-metallic objects, including powder and dust, better than the usual X-ray machines that our airports currently have.

Here is a video we found on YouTube that demonstrate the use of a Passive Millimeter Wave Scanners. There is also an Active Millimeter Wave Scanner wherein a full body sized machines thoroughly scans and creates a 3D image of the subject.

Here are the four international airports in the Philippines to receive two (2) scanners each:
1. Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1
2. Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3
3. Mactan-Cebu International Airport
4. Francisco Bangoy International Airport (Davao City)

According to Roberto Villanueva, deputy administrator of the Office for Transportation Security (OTS), each scanner will cost as much as Php6,000,000. The scanners are scheduled to be installed by the end of the year before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Manila in 2015.
