7 Ways You Can Use Technology for a Memorable Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and some of you may already have plans. But for those who want to make the experience more memorable with the help of available technology, then we have a few suggestions for you.

Dating Apps

Valentine’s Day are not just for couples. Singles may also want to enjoy the romantic atmosphere to meet new people. Dating apps can help and if you’re wondering which one to use, then check our compilation of 5 Dating Apps to Get Your Flirt On.

Netflix and Chill

Netflix has recently launched in the Philippines which means you can really do the Netflix and Chill. If you don’t like the rush on Valentine’s Day then you can just celebrate at home and fire up Netflix or other video streaming services like iFlix or HOOQ. If you want to make the experience more memorable then read our article here.

Music Streaming

Let’s say you’re done with Netflix or that didn’t work because your ISP decides to ruin it for you by giving you a very slow connection, you may opt to go for some music instead. Spotify is a good option since they offer a wide variety of playlists but we suggest you get a Premium subscription as ads may tend to ruin the mood.

May we also suggest using external speakers for a good listening experience like the JBL Pulse 2 because of its light effects, or the Satchmi Motorino Mk. II if you have an impressive vinyl collection.

Play Games

If you and your partner love gaming then this can be a really cool option. If you already have a gaming PC or console then you can allocate the dating budget to a couple of new games. Add some comfort food and a few beers and you’re good.

Airbnb

In case you’ve decided to go out and spend Valentine’s Day out of town then choosing a nice piece of real estate to stay at is a big factor. Airbnb can help you find a nice place to celebrate that fits your budget and preference.

Uber, GrabCar

Let’s say you need to pick up your date but bringing your own car is not a possibility, then Uber or GrabCar are your best options. If you want to ride in style just choose to book their premium options with nicer cars, but if you have the means and really want to impress your date, then you can opt for UberChopper or GrabHeli.

Livestream Your Moments

Sweet moments sometimes need to be shared online either via photos or videos, but sometimes it’s cooler to share it live. Live streaming apps like Periscope or Meerkat are really handy for moments like popping the question on Valentine’s Day. Just make sure that there’s a good chance she’ll say yes.

And there you have it. Got something to add? Then let us know in the comments below.

Booking our next trip with Airbnb

The last time the whole YugaTech team went out on a trip was Macau in December. We thought the summer outing/team building could be somewhere nearer so a land trip was in order.

We tried out AirBnB as one of the ways to find a good place to stay somewhere in Tagaytay, Batangas or Mindoro.

Airbnb has been around for years and is a famous marketplace for accommodations and listing across the globe. They’ve also recently made their presence more visible in the Philippines.

airbnb

Unlike most of the more common listings we used before (did Bookings.com in previous trips to Paris, Taipei and Macau) that specializes in hotels, Airbnb caters to home rentals by regular folks and homeowners. It could be single condo units, room for rent, or an entire apartments or house (though there are hotel listings too). It’s a good alternative if the location you wanted to go to does not have a good selection of hotels or the are fully booked during the schedule of your visit.

Since last month, I’ve also put up my other condo unit to be listed on Airbnb just to see how it goes and what’s the pick-up rate.

For today, we’re heading off to Punta Fuego after booking an entire house for the team until this week-end. We’ll see how it goes and share our experience.

If you want to try it out too, we have a coupon code here worth $25 which you can use on your first trip.

Airbnb expands to the Philippines

I have never been a client of Airbnb although I love seeing the homes and rooms being put up for rent around the world. Somehow, it gives me an idea how people are living in faraway places like Paris, Morocco and San Francisco.

It turns out the Philippines is now one of Airbnb’s growing markets with 400 per cent growth year-over-year in the Philippines in 2012.According to the web company’s co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Nathan Blecharczyk : “Manila is a growing travel destination, and people from the Philippines are traveling abroad at increasing rates, so we believe it will be a crucial market for us as we continue to grow.”

airbnb exec JJ Chai

JJ Chai, Director of Operations for Airbnb Southeast Asia, cites some statistics about the Philippines:

- Guests have come from 67 different countries around the world to travel in the Philippines on Airbnb.

- The number of guest nights booked on Airbnb in the Philippines has increased 345% in 2012 alone.

- The number of Airbnb guest nights booked by people from the Philippines traveling elsewhere has increased 263% in 2012, with the most popular destinations being Hong Kong, New York, Paris, Singapore, Manila, Rome, Seoul, Barcelona, Florence, and London.

- Airbnb has over 975 listings in the Philippines, including 530 in Manila.

To support the rapid growth in the Philippines, Airbnb has tabbed Ole Ruch as manager of the Southeast Asia region. The team focused on the Philippines will work to better support hosts and guests in the market, assisting in managing listings, bookings, and educating users about the Airbnb process.

Airbnb is currently the world market leader in unique, short-term accommodations. In June the company celebrated 10 million nights booked, and on any given night, over 50,000 guests are staying at Airbnb accommodations around the world.
