Warning about Copyright Infringement

BNS would like to remind our hosted clients to respect IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) of copyright owners. It is to warn everybody about Copyright Infringement of software. If one is not careful with the software they use, they might be charged with software piracy which is punishable by law. One of our clients just got an email from a copyrighted software about their use of vbulletin software which was unlicensed by the hosted clients.  Not only is this embarrasing, it could subject the site owner to possible legal liabilities. The owner of the software has the right to sue, and if one is proven guilty of copyright infringement, charges includes an immediate order to stop using the software, confiscation of other items involved, paying the owner of the copyright any profits you received from using the software and other damages.

MANILA, Philippines–Microsoft Philippines is scheduled to re-launch a major mobile phone service that aims to provide a cost-effective communications platform for overseas Filipino workers, a top local executive said.Microsoft Philippines managing director Rafael Rollan said that the service, dubbed “One Follow Me,” will be introduced again next year following pilot tests in two countries, namely Spain and Italy.

One Follow Me http://www.onefollowme.com/Default.aspx is a service developed to allow overseas Filipino workers to communicate and even remit funds to their families using a Microsoft-enabled phone connected to the Internet. The service includes mobile applications, for mobile instant messaging, surfing, and making voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) phone calls.

There are now close to 300 users of One Follow Me in the two countries, Rollan said. Asked why the pilot tests were conducted overseas, the Microsoft Philippines executive said this was due to the high concentration of OFWs who can afford to buy the device. Microsoft Philippines has explained that One Follow Me uses a Windows-powered mobile phone to access the Internet and conduct single or multiple fund transfers. Money is credited to their families’ accounts and can be withdrawn using automated teller machines. Microsoft Philippines has indicated that the device runs on a Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. It is not yet clear if the newer version of Windows Mobile operating system will be used.

The device connects to the Internet using existing mobile networks or through wi-fi hotspots. The software company has announced a partnership with Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. to enable OFWs to use a Windows-powered handheld device to remit or transfer funds overseas to their families in the Philippines. In an interview, Mae Rivera-Moreno, Microsoft public relations and community affairs manager, said that Microsoft Philippines is negotiating with more banks. Microsoft Philippines cited internal company research earlier that revealed that overseas Filipino workers spend an average of $50 to $250a month in overseas calls.

Microsoft developed One Follow Me using the Microsoft Live Communications Server.

Loud

I used to be a music lover. I used to play in bands. But no more.

I have no iPod - no portable music player of any kind.

I have to play music out loud. That often is socially unacceptable.

Ear pain is to blame. I can’t stand sound piped into my ear. I no longer tolerate amplified music. I had my hearing checked - it’s fine. So I don’t know for sure what causes my ear problem. It could be the side effect of the lithium I take.

Sometimes I just want to listen, so I have to make a sacrifice. The listening is fine; the pain and ringing comes after.

http://www.psu.edu.ph with its new look and feel

By Aurelie A. Peralta

The Pangasinan State University’s Official Website is powered by DotNetNuke, an open-source content management system that is built on ASP.NET technology and MS SQL Server 2005 Express back-end support. Before, PSU website uses the default DNN Blue Fixed-width skin and was very much simple that time.

With the abundant availability of nice DNN skins free for downloads, it is very easy to play around different DNN Site looks and feel. Some of these skins, especially those with top caliber designs are actually being sold while a lot with fair to quality looks are also being given free.

The best part is, you can actually create your own skins and make your website an originally-designed one. I happen to read a “How to create your own DNN skin” tutorial and discovered that it is actually not that complicated to create your own skins. You can start creating a simple one and then later transform your design into a more sophisticated design.

Now with some combinations of DNN skin designs, I changed the PSU Website’s look and feel with what it is right now. Visit the site and see what it becomes at http://www.psu.edu.ph. You can also open it directly at http://202.91.163.10/psu.edu.ph to skip the url redirection.
