Samsung to produce Qualcomm Snapdragon 820

Samsung has just announced that it’s begun mass production of SoCs using the latest 2nd generation 14nm FinFET process technology.

This new technology will be used with its Sammy’s own and Exynos 8 Octa processor and the upcoming Snapdragon 820 from their major competitor — Qualcomm. This means that the upcoming high-end chip from Qualcomm will use Samsung’s new 14nm LPP process which “delivers up to 15 percent higher speed and 15 percent less power consumption over the previous 14nm LPE process through improvements in transistor structure and process optimization.”

We can expect to see the Snapdragon 820 in multiple flagship devices for 2016, including the Samsung Galaxy S7. Although, Samsung might still go with their own Exynos chipset. We just have to wait and see the official announcement soon.

Qualcomm announces two new chipsets, targets mid-range devices

Qualcomm, in Hong Kong, today announces two new Snapdragon processors namely the 430 and 617 chipsets that will kick things a notch higher for multimedia and connectivity of future mid-range devices. Head past the break for the list of features and improvements.

ARM Cortex A53 octa-core CPU
X6 LTE
Cat 4 downlink speeds up to 150 Mbps

Adreno 505 GPU with Open GL ES3.1, Android Extension Pack, and OpenCL 2.0

ARM Cortex A53 octa-core CPU
X8 LTE
Cat 7 download/upload speeds up to 300/100 Mbps, respectively
Same software advances, dual-ISP, and camera architecture of Snapdragon 620 and 618

Qualcomm Hexagon DSP
Support for Qualcomm Global Pass Certification program

The company mentions that devices sporting Snapdragon 430 would arrive sometime in the second quarter of next year, while Snapdragon 617 devices could be expected before the end of 2015. For more details on these chipsets hit the source link below.
