Senepa Designed for the Philippine Weather

Fascia—known in the vernacular as ‘senepa’—has very practical purposes: as attachment point for rain gutters to help the roof weather-proof our homes, and to prevent moisture from entering the house through any gap between the roof and the eaves. But it also has an aesthetic role as a decorative accent to a home’s façade.

Filipino homes have very specialized needs when it comes to fascia, both because harsh weather is constant in the Philippines, and because of the variety of architectural styles of houses here. Especially created to withstand frequent typhoons, long months of heavy rains, humidity and long months of extreme heat, HardieFlex® Senepa offers just the right mix of durable performance and versatility.

Practical protection offered by a fiber cement board

There are different materials that can be used for fascia boards, including PVC, sheet metal, and timber. However, these materials are not ideal candidates in the face of Philippine weather, which turn them brittle, corroded, or rotten.

HardieFlex® Senepa is made of cellulose fiber, Portland cement, ground sand, water, and proprietary additives. All materials are from sustainable sources, combined to deliver the HardieFlex® advantage—these senepa boards are strong, durable, and long-lasting, and can withstand the challenges the Philippine weather can hurl against it.

Hassle-free, worry-free protection

Homeowners should opt for fascia boards that don’t require much maintenance or care. They’re installed high up (especially if the house has two floors or more) and it can be quite difficult to check up on the fascia constantly. HardieFlex® Senepa boards are resistant to fire, impact, moisture damage, rotting, and termites—the homeowner never has to worry about them for years. Once installed according to the James Hardie installation guide, HardieFlex® Senepa will give homeowners one less reason to worry about.

Installing HardieFlex® Senepa is not an unnecessary addition to a practical and forward-thinking homeowner—in fact, it is a cost-efficient way to freshen up the structure’s look without taking up too much of the homeowner’s time and effort. James Hardie designed these senepa boards for fast and quick installation. Factor in the 10-year product warranty, durability, and versatility, and homeowners get unbelievable value for money.

Perfect canvas for pizzazz and personality

The fascia is one of the trims and details under the roof that can bring a house’s exterior design elements together. As a finishing touch, it can either add vibrancy, whimsical touch, modern flavor, or classic sophistication to accentuate or provide contrast to the roof’s design.

Available in different thicknesses, lengths and widths, HardieFlex® Senepa is pre-cut to fit different types of structures. They also come with a high-quality smooth finish that’s easy to paint on. With the perfect color choice, the homeowners can customize the look of their dwelling to fit their taste and personality.

Manila Water, the East Zone water and used water service provider, has advised its customers to be vigilant against water meter thieves especially those customers whose water meters are located at a distance from their residences.

Manila Water Spokesperson, OIC for Corporate Strategic Affairs Group and Corporate Communications Head Jeric Sevilla issued the advisory to ensure that its customers are fully aware of the need to be on guard against thieves in light of 139 cases of stolen meters reported from January to October this year.

“We would like to advise our customers in the east zone concession area to protect their water meters and to immediately report incidences of meter theft to the local authorities or the nearest Manila Water office,” Sevilla said as he also encouraged customers to put a lock or metal cage to safeguard their water meters.

The same warning also applies to owners of junk shops who buy stolen meters, an act that is illegal and punishable under the Anti-Fencing Law.

Manila Water also cautioned residential owners, business establishments and offices against meter-tampering adding that only representatives of the company are allowed to conduct repairs or replacement in case their water meters are no longer working or in need of repair.

“The water meters that we installed have a warranty of five to seven years,” Sevilla added.  We also encourage households and owners of commercial and business establishments to report malfunctioning or defective meters for immediate replacement.

Manila Water provides water and used water services to the eastern portion of Metro Manila that includes 6.3 million customers in Pasig, Makati, San Juan, Taguig, Pateros, Marikina, Mandaluyong and parts of Quezon City and Manila as well as several towns of Rizal province.

PNB Musical Play

Photo shows (seated, from left) Edilberto S. Ramos, Christian Jerome O. Dobles, Justice Cielito N. Mindaro-Grulla, Judith N. Batang; (standing, from left) Janette Y. Abad Santos, Jay B. Pesigan, Teresa C. Noriega, Charles M. Noriega, Gil G. Grulla, and Arnel C. Batang.

On the celebration of its Centennial Anniversary in July 2016, the Philippine National Bank (PNB) will be staging the award-winning play, Bayan-Bayanan of the late playwright, Bienvenido“Boy” M. Noriega, Jr.

Paying tribute to PNB’s significant base of OFW clients, Bayan-Bayanan is a bittersweet vignette of stories of a group of OFWs who were based in Geneva, Switzerland in the late 1970’s.  It tackles the struggles and victories of these migrant workers, in the fulfillment of their dreams for their families.

Last October 5, 2015, PNB has officially secured the rights to the production of the play from the heirs of Mr. Noriega -  Justice Cielito N. Mindaro-Grulla, James M. Noriega, Maribel N. De La Cruz, Rosalinda N. Casaje, Norman M. Custado, Dr. Judith N. Batang, Charles M. Noriega, Lalaine N. Abrantes.

The PNB production of Bayan-Bayanan will be a collaboration of a roster of award-winning local theater talents, with the likes of Gawad CCP Para sa Sining Teatro 2015 Awardee, Tony Mabesa as Director for both local and foreign theater companies, Ceejay Javier for the Musical Direction and five-time recipient of the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature, two-time recipient of the Philippine Theater Guild’s Gawad Buhay, and Floy Quintos for the Libretto.

What makes the play “much closer to home” is that, while still writing plays, Mr. Noriega was a former Executive Vice President of the bank in February 1, 1982. The play was Mr. Noriega’s Grand Prize Piece in the CCP Literary Contest for the years 1974-1975. It was first staged at the CCP’s Little Theater on November 1975 and has also been produced and staged in the former theater of the bank in Escolta by employee cum actors of the Bank, also under the direction of (Mr) Mabesa.  Moreover, it has also been brought to the stage in several countries such as Athens, London, Geneva, Chicago, and more recently in Toronto, Canada.

Honda Introduces the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI), Honda’s automobile business unit in the Philippines, announces the availability of the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition. The New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition is equipped with new features exclusive to the Philippine market.

Over the years, the City nameplate has established itself as the best-selling vehicle in HCPI’s 13 product line-up. This continuously inspires the company to constantly innovate and develop its only manufactured vehicle to appeal to more customers.

Recently, HCPI Research Planning & Development Team, together with a representative from Honda R&D Co., Ltd. Japan, researched on the dynamic lifestyles and vehicle usage of Filipino consumers in the present setting. Findings show that Filipinos tend to look for a child-friendly vehicle that also protects occupants from the heat and airborne allergens. This led to the development of the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition.

Revolving around the product concept of “Passionate and Omotenashi (Japanese term for genuine hospitality)”, the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition has added values to offer in the areas of style, health and wellness, safety, and convenience.

Style-wise, the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition gets an exclusive, all-new Ruby Red Pearl color as a result from the recent study. The brightness of the Ruby Red Pearl paint exudes elegance while still complementing the sporty style of the fourth-generation City. The Special Edition variant is also available in Gold Brown Metallic, and Taffeta White exterior colors.

Unique to the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition is the application of UV Cut Glass windows for the front doors. The high performance UV absorbent coated glass, fused with core technologies, minimizes the penetration of UV rays and Infrared lights by approximately 99%, which is ideal for the Philippine tropical environment.

In the area of safety and convenience, the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition is equipped with a speed-sensing Auto Door Lock system that enables the vehicle to bolt automatically upon reaching a speed level of 15kph, and to intelligently unlock all doors when the shift lever is set to Park Mode (P).

In addition, the key fob of the Special Edition consists of a Panic Button. Long pressing the Panic Button enables the vehicle to emit a loud alarm through the horns, and to flash its headlights and park lights to call for immediate attention.
